Boyfriend the Daring

I was sitting at my computer this afternoon perched on my stool.  Behind me
is my armchair with one padded arm directly behind my back.
So Boyfriend got up on the arm of the chair and rubbed my back with his
head.  I put my hand round, said Hi, babes, and gave him a little scritch.
That was not enough.  He did it again and added a miaow, so I said what do
you want?  He then added another two miaows so I said just wait a minute, I
am busy;  and you will never guess what he did, this cat who used to run
away when I appeared.
He sat on the arm of my chair and put both his front legs round my waist and
he put his claws out just a little so I could feel it slightly!!  Like this
was something very urgent, one of those Lassie moments, come quick, come
quick..
As he has been known before to alert me to Kitty's urgent need as she cannot
make a noise herself, I leapt up off my stool to see what was wrong.  Yep,
he did the follow-me thing.  Straight to his dry food dish which was empty.
(I am trying to only give him a little dry, but he's crazy for it.)

What a lad!

A house is not a home, without a cat.

What a sweetheart his is learning to be.  (As well as master manipulator)

Guess he has heard the expression "it never hurts to ask"

He was norty.  It is not allowed to sound such an alert except in an
emergency.  It is *not* an emergency if there is not dry food in his bowl!
He is a boycat and his dry food is therefore restricted.
He doesn't like this.  I think he must have been fed all dry at his previous
(lost) home.  He likes it best of all.

My Mandy would assure you, as she does me every morning, that it is an
emergency if the bottom of the bowl is even visible! She shudders to think
what a dire emergency is represented by an empty bowl!

And she doesn't believe that dry food is bad for boycats, girlcats, or any
other kind of cats! TEDs have all these weird and false ideas, like
feeding certain cats diet food. She loves her food, she does.

Ah, your Mandy must have been talking with my Heidi.  She's
obsessed with food.

"Diet?!  Cat's don't *do* diets!"

"This is just good wrestling weight."  [She does need the weight
to deal with Will; he's smaller but stronger.]

"I'm already on a diet; it says so right on the catfood bag --
'Science Diet'.  So give me some more, right nowrr!"

The appearance of the color of the bottom of the bowl is how Stinky
knows he is starving. ;)

The fact that Boyfriend felt daring enough to insist like this, and trust me
so much as to put his "arms" round me to make me do what he wanted made me
feel quite emotional.  It has taken nearly two years to get to this stage.
He was so very frightened when he came here totally lost in 2003, just a big
kitten was all he was then.
He found a place to sleep in my conservatory.  A bed that was Kitty's
actually.  I always left a window open there so she could get in and out
when I was at work.  As soon as I opened the back door, Boyfriend would
wake, panic and exit immediately through the window.
So he has come a long way since then, hasn't he, to feel confident enough to
try and force me to do what he wants?
I was a bit proud of him.  It was touching.

It is a HUGE landmark. I also think it's a bit of a testament to how much he
missed you when you were gone.

You should be proud of him and yourself, Christina, this is a very big step
forward.
Best wishes,

Sammy has just about perfected that move - reaching up and just BARELY
sticking out her claws ;-) If that doesn't get the reaction she's
after she'll reach up and wrap her arms around my arm. Spot did the
claw trick the other night for the first time. LB is more direct if
I'm typing away and she feels I'm not paying the proper amount of
attention to her - she just jumps up and sits on the keyboard. LOL

Boyfriend sounds adorably smart and charming. And he has his
priorities right--food is first!
