For news, keep checking the BBC website and the Guardian website.
www.bbc.co.uk and www.guardian.co.uk Please stay calm. If you live or work
in an area where people might be worrying about you, then switch your mobile
on and put a message on your answering machine telling people that you're
OK.

It's definitely a terrorist attack, so many explosions on tubes and buses
can't be anything else.

fro the last 20 minutes or so the bbc website news.bbc.co.uk seem strained
but will load eventually
a couple of the major mobile phone operators were reported to be down almost
immediately after the first incidents, seems the problems are increasing and
include also landlines, all this is to be expected under the circumstances
of course
figures for "confirmed" dead seem to range between 2-7 at the moment, with
some 100 casualties, stretchers and oxygen are still carried into tube
stations

TV better than the web on this occasion, for more updated situation. So far,
20 dead, many more injured, six separate explosions confirmed. The pictures
of a double decker bus which exploded is not pretty at all - bent double
like a squashed drink can and with the roof peeled off :-( Entire tube
network shut down - sensible - and central London buses off the road -
again, sensible in the circumstances.

I haven't found out if my niece & her family are okay. The chances of them
being hurt are small, but it's a worry nevertheless.

The initial CBC reports said an electical fault, but it was rather odd it
seemed widespread...by the time I got in to my work computer, CBC's report
was updated, although I can't get on the BBC site. It sounds horrifying!
World Report is just starting, with yet another update.

Purrs to everyone. It's always a worry when friends or relatives are in
threatened or dangerous areas, even though logically we know the chances
of any individual being affected are small.

It's not an electrical fault that was just the first excuse (probably
so that people wouldn't panic) it's a terrorist attack but we don't
know who's behind it

Thanks Debbie

It's starting to look increasingly grim for me actually getting home
and they reckon it will be a week before the tube gets back to normal.
Still I just heard that the last of my friends not to be accounted for
is safe after having walked miles into work so no moaning!

Three lucky people through Dave K who has this week off work or he
would have been caught up in it and Paul and Liz who decided to set off
early today or they would have been at King's Cross in time to be
caught up in it!

My gaming club meets tonight and the general view is that we are not
going to let them grind us down!

It's starting to look like the overhead line from Richmond to Stratford
may well be running, it's a gamble as it could take me 40 minutes to
get to Richmond and if it's still closed then I have lost time....But
if it works it shouldn't be too bad (and I can get to work tomorrow
morning) and  from Stratford I can walk home or get a cab (I am told no
buses are passing our flat probably because they are all in cental
London)

Just heard from the last friend (I'd forgotten about him) he's really
shaking- he was 10 minutes late this morning if he'd been on time he
would have been caught in the main explosion at Liverpool Street

God, this reminds me so of 9/11/2001.  My friend Ian missed his train and
was late getting to the World Trade Center.  He made it inside the elevator
just as the first plane hit.  The elevator stayed put.  An hour or so later
(shortly before the tower fell) the elevator doors opened and he and several
other people walked out to mass confusion and destruction and were rushed
out of the building.

You are all in my thoughts.

Glad to hear everyone you know is safe, Lesley. Nightmare getting home
to Stratford from W London though.... no suggestions, except is there
anyone you can stay the night with locally & ring a neighbour to feed
your cats?

The latest updates for the North London Line are here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/travel/trains/silverlink_metro_feature.shtml
seems to indicate no service at present - maybe check later on?

My DH is driving at the moment to collect his son who was at Acton
today, and needs to get home to Orpington - fortunately he got a lift
as far as Wimbledon so DH is collecting from there (we're in S Croydon)
& dropping him home. Chaos all round.

Thanks for that link-just to add to problems there's a delay due to
Stratford's end playing up......

I have been offered a bed for the night at work- one of our wards is
being converted to a dormitory but the thought of sitting in RPH
lunatic asylum all night when dammit I was supposed to be running a
game!....

Not worried about the Fabulous Furballs- Dave (DH) is at home and so
they have a slave waiting attendence on their every need as usual!

Yes... I can see your point! Tricky call at the moment. I would keep a
check on the overground, it may pick up later on this evening and you
can get back at least!

I heard on the radio that a European Al Qaida cell has claimed
responsibility for the London attacks--don't know how reliable a report that
is, though. The bastards--whoever did it!

UK Cat lovers, I hope your family members and friends check in rapidly to
let you know they're all okay.

Another sad, dark day, here on Earth! ='o(

It's always been a question of "when" not "if" :-(
Our emergency services have been trained for such an eventuality and they
came good today.
The bus blew up right outside the London offices of the British Medical
Association which happened to be crammed with doctors attending a meeting
who immediately all rushed out to attend the injured and dying and no doubt
saved lives by their immediate response.
The front of that building which was white before, is now spattered all over
with blood.
I just cannot even conceive of the hatred in anyone's mind to do this to
innocent people going to work.   May they rot in hell for ever and suffer
unimaginably pain for all eternity.

In Australia we heard almost immediately.  It came on with the evening news,
all programs were cancelled for the rest of the night,  Truly horrifying,
it was a terrorist attack.

Tv certainly better - or radio - I get only CNN here, and FOX that one local
channel broadcast alternatelty with Bloomberg when they don't have own
programs.

Awful pictures indeed, seems "reasonably clear" to use Tony Blair's words
that the strike is aimed to the High street/financial area and connected to
the G8 summit

purrs for the continued rescue efforts

Prayers here for their and others safety.

"us all" is the byword, the NYT has run aticles for years on the aging
and substandard rail infrastructure in NYC and, within the last few
days, the commercial rail traffic through the center of Wash DC - the
railroads are fighting all proposed changes for alternate transport
routes for hazardous materials;  the number of people currently at risk
is beyond comprehension.  With yet another clarion call maybe the PTB
will take quick action.  Norm

I've just heard that my brother is safe.  He wasn't in work today.  Phew!
What a relief for me , but at least 37 have died and 700 injured, possibly
more fatalities as some are critical.  My thoughts go out to all that have
been affected.
