Could it be that the powers that be at work don't want you replying at
work? I once took a computer tech class, way back before windows 95.
One of the little tricks they taught us disabled the solitaire game.
When a user tried to start up the game a message would pop up to
contact a supervisor, and the machine would shut down. Thinking back,
I can't remember how we did it, though.

That would make sense if I couldn't post new messages either, but I can. I
don't get an error message, I just get a totally blank dialog box with three
blank buttons in it (pressing any of the buttons doens't do anything) and a
check box (checking an unchecking the box doesn't do anything either).

But she can post new topics, just not reply. I do know our IT department
blocked a lot of things; I couldn't get to newsgroups at all unless I used
the Google interface. (But then, I was too busy to read and post from work
anyway.) They blocked Webshots and other photo sites because of bandwidth
issues and people downloading screensavers and the like. We couldn't
install weather information programs (like Weatherbug) either. Bandwidth
was cited as the reason. Eventually only a few of us had "admin" rights to
install *anything* on our PC's; someone from IT had to do it and it had to
be the approved, licensed corporate approved software.

Ooops, I made that sound like I wasn't in IT. I was, and I had admin rights
on my PC. But someone from a specific *department* in IT had to install
software for the majority of the employees. I think it all started (really)
when folks were installing things like ICQ and Instant Messenger and
spending more time chatting than working. From there, they got more strict.
After all, the machines are owned by the company.

Find a job-related newsgroup and pretend you're "doing research"... :)
