I don't think I have written about CJ here: he's my newest cat - a bit
less than two years old, black and white, medium long hair, and
wonderful disposition. One of his previous humans was allergic to him
so I took him in to become the twelfth cat in my clowder.
Anyway, I noticed last night that his left eye wasn't dilated but his
right eye was. Off to the vet with him this afternoon. I put the
carrier in the front seat rather than in the back (of the SUV) -
passenger instead of cargo, and he was perfectly behaved. At the end
of the exam, after the usual indignities, the vet wanted to check his
coordination - he put CJ down on the floor to watch his walk. He
didn't walk, instead he pulled one of those faster than sound moves
cats make ... straight into the carrier - no problem moving. He
wanted *in* the carrier at the vet's, but when we got home and I
opened the gate, he shot out with equal speed - he wanted *out* of the
carrier when not at the vet's.
All the vet found even slightly wrong was that CJ had some swollen
lymph glands. He asked if CJ had maybe hit his head recently. I
couldn't think of anything but except perhaps fights (he made four
enemies the day he came back from being neutered by attacking them,
some of them bigger than he is - now all four hate him). Just a few
minutes ago it occurred to me that he probably hit his head when he
climbed on the top of an unstable pile on the top shelf - I'm pretty
sure it was him: the plastic tray that I had put on top had been his
favorite resting place on a lower shelf - and the pile collapsed onto
the floor about seven feet down ... there are several things he could
have hit his head on.
He's a little better tonight, so I hope it's just a temporary injury -
in any case, I will be watching him closely.

A house is not a home, without a cat.

He seems to feel fine: he's his usual active and curious self ... he
just hasn't shown any interest in getting back on that shelf.
