I recently posted a story about a stray cat on my web site. The story
is based on a true experience, although I did exercise a little
literary license in the interests of making it more entertaining.

The story is about 5,000 words, so it's not a two minute read. It is
presented in 4 chapters. If you'd like to read it you can find it here

I'd be very interested in hearing some critiques of the story.

Thanks,

John

Hi, John,
I think your story is well-written and I enjoyed reading it.  It brought
back to me the time I spend winning the trust of the formerly feral Rosie.
I had to wait until I had trapped her and brought her inside before she was
tame enough to allow me a brief touch.
Now, she is totally tame and a wonderful friend.
It is amazing how you learn to rejoice the smallest steps and how deeply a
wild, homeless cat can embed itself into your heart.

Cats are unique animals. At times, it seems like they couldn't care
less if people were to disappear and at other times they smother us
with affection.  Like I say in the story, I thought Whitey needed a
friend and I was proven right in the end. It's surprising how moved I
was during the writing of this story. It brought back a lot of pleasant
and not so pleasant memories.

Very nice, well written story!  I'm glad you were able to help "Whitey" and
am sorry you didn't find out what happened to him.  I have the feeling you'd
have kept him as an indoor kitty eventually if he'd not run off.

I think if he had still been there when winter came he might have
accepted staying in the house all day.

I've always felt guilty about letting him roam free during the day, but
then, he was roaming free 24 hours a day before he started living with
me. I'm not so sure he 'ran off'. I think he ended up with another
family. He had become very friendly with people by that time. He loved
it when I had company. He would beat me to the door to greet visitors.
I should have worked this into the story.

I  like to think that some young girl met him and took him inside to
show her mother. They may have put up a few signs in the neighborhood,
but I never saw any.

Thanks for taking the time to read the story,

John

Those of you who enjoyed the first story might like to know that I've
added a second story. This one is about a siamese cat and a puppy. Hope
you enjoy it. http://www.jonra.com/blog/satan-and-the-puppy.shtml
