Yesterday...
Bliss...
The males of both species were out yesterday. The human males were cycling
(Nathan was competing), so it was a girlie veg-out session on the sofa
whislt watching (& taping) the finest sight one can see on a TV...
multitudinous perfectly formed and toned male backsides in tight Lycra
cycling kit... Yes, Le Tour has started! I don't think the boys of the
household see the aesthetics of Le Tour in the same way as I... Waffles & I
curled up on the sofa together and watched muscular, pert, toned, firm male
flesh at one with narrow hard saddles, carbon fibre, pedals, tyres & wheels.
For the next three weeks, I shall be sofa-bound watching over a hundred
blokes pedalling a couple of thousand miles around France.
For the Leftpondian's of the group, a certain Mr Armstrong did a spectacular
ride yesterday, catching & overtaking Jan Ullrich, his minute-man in the
first stage, an individual time trial. Perhaps the fact that Ullrich's head
met his team car rear windscreen during a training run on Friday, may have
had an adverse effect on his performance today, who knows.
To keep Nathan happy, it was a CSC rider who came first yesterday (Armstrong
was second), as CSC his Nathan's favourite team...
It was also confirmed that Nathan does not view Le Tour in the same way as
I, as when he was watching it yesterday evening, he was moaning about there
being too many shots of riders' rears and not enough of the bikes. I told
him he was quite wrong. I got the teenage look of "Mother has finally
flipped" yet again.
For those who are interested, catch an eyeful of these...

I wondered how Lance had done. (How did Ullrich manage to do that?)

Apparently there was a vehicle in front of the team car which braked
suddenly so the team car had to brake suddenly & Ullrich didn't have time to
take avoiding action. When you are cycling that close to a vehicle - you are
effectively being towed by it - and you can get up a really high speed, but
there are risks - as Ullrich found out. A rider needs the skill to do this,
as in the big stage races, it's used as a method of getting a rider back up
to the bunch, if, say, he has had to change bikes...

Most welcome. Of course, being a dirty old/middle-aged lady, one watches Le
Tour and enlightenment occurs as to why Lycra cycling shorts are essential.
Put it this way, a cyclist can *look hugely pleased* to have crossed the
line first ;-)
