Nothing but good news from Spot's visit today. Looks like her weight
has stabilized at around 7 pounds. She was 7.2 at her last visit, 6.9
today. Remember she was at a skinny 5 lbs when I brought her and the
kits inside. 2 pounds may not sound like much, but when you're
starting out at 5, it's a hefty weight gain. Also good news with her
ears - TED says they're good - no mites and finally the redness is
gone.
She's finally healthy - so it's time to get her spayed. I don't have
anything bad to say about the discount speuter clinic, but decided Dr
Haney will be doing the surgery next week. Spot will also be getting
chipped while gettting the surgery done, so I guess she's now
offically MY cat - just don't tell the landlord ;-)
As for the integration, slow but sure. Sammy and Spot get along as
long as neither gets too close. Sammy has decided that she is not
going to run from Spot anymore. Now Spot backs down when Sam decides
to push an issue. I think they'll eventually be friends.
Spot still chases LB about once a week, but isn't too serious about
it. They've never actually fought, just insult each other. The chasing
almost always involves a dispute over food. Spot isn't nearly as
protective of the food, but still doesn't like seeing the others eat.
They get their canned food in separate rooms, and there are bowls of
grunchy food in each room during the day. Just seems that Spot can't
top herself from trying to defend the grunchies sometimes, so she
chases LB. Seems like the chases are occuring less frequently, perhaps
because Spot realises that chasing just gets her a time out.
LB has given notice that, while she'll usually back down, there are
times when she'll stand her ground. Just like when Rocky first decided
to get up on the furniture, LB has let it be known that when she is on
the bed or the recliner, she is NOT going to leave because a newby cat
wants HER favorite napping spot. So if Spot happens to jump up onto
either of LB's special areas, LB hisses until Spot leaves or settles
down as far away as physically possible without getting down. Usually
what happens is that Spot pretends to settle down, but then gradually
inch her way closer. LB either ignores her or gives up in disgust and
goes to the other room. Again, pretty much like she did with Rocky. It
took awhile, but eventually she would jump up onto her special spots
even if Rocky happened to be there first, and the day she does that
with Spot will be a significant breakthrough. I don't think these two
will ever be friendly, but I'll be happy when they get to the point of
ignoring each other like Sam and Spot are now.

All good news. Don't discount a good solid "Man you annoy me" attitude as
good. Sometimes, it really puts some spice in their life.

Sounds good, Steve. Thanks for the update. Hope Spot and Sam will soon
start playing together.
