OT:  Blender, never do this

Never forget to put the top on your blender when you want to make soup. I
did.  I spent most of the morning today cleaning my toaster, blender,
kettle, my radio which was on the kitchen shelf, my windowsill, my windows
and curtains. And my hair and clothes above the waist.
Nothing can make me cross today.

Another thought... if you have one of those "stick blenders" make sure the
pot is deep enough!  I got a face full of potatoes, leeks and chicken broth.

Ah, yes, I have a "stick blender" too.  Nüle calls it a wand. <smile>

Were the cats at least eager to help you clean?

Nope.  Too much like hard work for my two now they get regular meals!

Which is why the hand held blender gadgets are great to have around.  Of
course I have no idea where ours is, but it didn't cost much.  Great for
soup or for lumpy gravy or sauce.

Oh, sorry about the mess.  Been there, hate that.

Did this once a long time ago.  Glad you have the energy to do all that
cleaning-- now take a good rest.   MLB

Didn't do it with a blender but was guilty of lifting the beaters of a mixer
up before turning the motor off first and flung mashed potato bits
everywhere.

Ugh.  It was having potato in the mixture that made it imperative to clean
it up a.s.a.p.   as no doubt you know ;-)   Nothing like dried on potato
puree, it's like glue.
The funny thing was (yes, I was so happy because of my hospital visit the
previous day and could laugh at it) was that while cleaning the soup gunge
out of the recesses of my 6 month old toaster, I turned it upside down.
That was when I realised I had never cleaned out the crumb tray...  So I had
crumbs all over the worktop and carpet too.  6 months  worth of crumbs is
quite a lot of crumbs. You have to laugh, don't you?

I'm sorry you had such a hellatious mess to clean up, Tweed.  And
yet......giggle! I can SO easily picture myself forgetting to put the lid on
the blender! You'll laugh at this... later. And I cannot argue with the
soundness of your advice.

About as dumb was the time I was mixing a chocolate cake with the
electric mixer. I got distracted and lifted the mixer out of the bowl
before turning it off. I had a chocolate mess everwhere. But the
beaters being horizontal, the mess was horizontal, also. The shirt I
was wearing was white, of course.

LOL! Don't feel bad -- my aunt did the same thing.

Only in her case, she was planning to make zucchini bread and was mixing
the ingredients in the blender. Every now and then, she'd stop the
blender, remove the lid, and use a wooden spoon to push down the batter
that'd crept up the sides of the blender, so everything would mix evenly.

Normally, this would take place with no mishaps. However, there was the
time when my grandparents and I arrived while she was doing this. We were
bringing my cousin (her son), who'd spent a few days visiting us, home.
She was distracted by our arrival and forgot to turn off the blender
before inserting the wooden spoon.

If there was a part of her kitchen that WASN'T anointed with zucchini
bread batter, I can't imagine where that would've been. There was even
batter on the ceiling. Wooden spoons don't take too kindly to being
inserted into operating blenders, btw -- the whole batch of batter, AND
the spoon, had to be discarded due to splinters that came off the ruined
spoon.

My cousin and I were about 10 and 3 years old, respectively, and we
thought this was the funniest thing that ever happened. ;o) To this day
(nearly 30 years later), all I have to say is "Zucchini on the ceiling" to
make my cousin burst out laughing. :o)

Yes, I know ;-) but the thought of how it would congeal if I left it spurred
me on.  I have rarely seen such a mess in my house before, except once when
I set my Dyson going without the filter in.  (Don't ask..)

I am fed up with having to ask people to help me.  I took it steadily and
sat down in between, that's why it took so long, what a mess it was.

Yes, mlb, I had a long rest afterwards, it nearly did me in, far too early
for such work.

I've done that - fortunately, it wasn't anything that stained!

I assure you that you are NOT the first person to do that. Just be grateful
that you didn't have to clean an angry cat too.

Oh, I am, but I wouldn't have, I'd have just said "there you go, KFC &
Boyfriend, there is your breakfast served in a different way this morning,
let me know how you like it.."

Reminds me of the New Years eve when I was making frozen limeade margaritas
with friends, including the guy who cuts my hair.  We were trying to make
popcorn in a paper bag in the microwave.  (This was before all the packaged
stuff)  A wonder we didn't start a fire and burn the house down.  Two days
later I ran into him and he asked where I went for New Years.  A few to many
margaritas.

Recipe was a can of frozen limeade concentrate, and can of rum, and fill the
blender with ice.  After the first one they taste just fine, and you can
still remember how they are made till you run out of limeade.
