She's meatloafing by the patio door.  The temperature outside is close to
100F and very humid.  She wants out in her Kitty Walk.  I stroked her head
and said, "It's too hot, Persia."  She gazed into my eyes and replied,
"Meow!"  Kittie scritches "Um no, sweetie, it's too hot."  "Meow!"  "No no,
Persia, it's too hot."  "Meow-ma?"  Baby girl, no, it's too *hot*.

My twelve cats have 24/7 access to both the in and out, and even
though it about the same weather here as there, almost all of them
will be outside when I get home - they seem to prefer natural heat to
artificial cool.  They do not feel so strongly about natural cold and
artificial warm - most of them will be inside when it well below
freezing in the winter.

She may not mind it but I know this gal.  She'll be out there 3 minutes and
then be begging to be let back inside.  Persia is a tad "fluffy" :)  I also
can't give her access to the out; I live on a busy corner so I wouldn't.  As
for the cold, I suppose this is why when she first came to me and it was 28F
and getting colder as the sun set she *demanded* I let her inside :)

Eight of the twelve were definitely outside when I got home, but most
came in fairly quickly ... it seems that their food and water bowls
were empty - they weren't when I left, so we must have had visitors.
Also, there was a thunderstorm blowing in, and that tends to drive
them inside as much as an empty bowl does.

The storm really dropped the temperature.  The latest radar (about ten
minutes ago) shows Rolla really getting clobbered, and me just on the
edge of the light part (10 miles east).  I may get something heaver
later.

My cats tend not to mind heat, cold or even rain so much, but high winds
they hate. They will stay inside on a windy day on the island,
preferably under covers.

It used to amuse me no end when I was growing up and the cat would
meow at the door to be let out, but when we opened the door, he'd
see SNOW out there, so he'd stay in.  Minutes later, he'd be at
another door.  Just searching for the Door Into Summer.....

It's a rule!  The weather must be different at every door and window :)

Rusty likes to sleep in a room where the AC cannot reach.

Yup, same with Vino.  He's always sleeping upstairs during the day
when it must be over 40C up there.  In the living room, I'll have the
aircon on and it will be a much nicer 25C, but he avoids it.  Still he
sleeps with me at night with the aircon on.  I guess he wants to be
with me at night more than he hates the aircon.

When it is hot here, our meatloafs turn into extended feline rugs with
their forelegs thrust out ahead of them and their hind legs kicked out
behind.  It is too hot for a proper "loaf"...they want to maximize
surface to air ratio.

You should have heard Mimi yesterday.  Since it's been so hot & humid, and
our enclosed back porch ("da tiled room") has no insulation & crappy
windows, it's been closed for the better part of the last week or so.  We
*were* opening it up at night, but it still heated up the whole house.  Mimi
would sit at that door, look out the window, and scram in her little squeaky
voice.  Fist time she did it, I thought she'd gotten hurt somehow, and went
running to see what - she looked at me  & did another squeal from the door
as if to say "pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez".

We caved last night and let them out there.  I opened that door and there
was a stampede of cats around my feet, all trying to get out there at once.
Just think of the 3 Stooges all trying to get through a doorway at once,
then replace the 3 Stooges with *8* cats.....

This morning, MamaKat was outside (she had kittens sometime this past
weekend & doesn't hang out all day like she used to - saw her moving them on
Monday, so we are laying off trapping her until she brings them around and
teaches them to be freeloaders ;) ), and I attempted to 'shoo' all the cats
back into the house proper - they usually resist.  I could the remains of
what must have been a kitty-party held out there "inna tiled room" as Weeb's
Purrple Puffball was out there (was in the kitchen for most of yesterday),
and so were a couple of Moe's bottlecaps.

Speaking of Weebs, I need to prod him into writing to "His Preshus Persia",
else Persia might get the wandering eye (I know there's lotsa boy-kitties
here that would love to have a beautiful grey girl-kitty as their special
friend).

There is no way to convince a cat who is in a cool room that it is too hot
outside.  Or for that matter to convince a cat that is out in the heat it
should come in a cool off.  It is as it they cannot compute that the
temperature in two places might be different.  They know there is food
inside.  They know there is water inside.  They even know there is safe
inside (From monster birds as well as scary dogs)  But not cool.

Of course it is entirely possible that they differ in their ideas of what is
hot and what is cool.  I forget, but isn't a cats normal body temp about 102
f?

Its headed for 102f outside here today and the cats will not come in or stay
in.
