Harri girl is proving just what a wonderful kitty she is. She is on 2
liquid antibiotics and vitamin K tablets. She hates them, as they must
taste awful. She initially resists opening her mouth but soon gives in,
and she never really fights me. But here is the unbelievable part:
She comes looking for me when it's time for her meds.
She will come in from the back yard or out from behind the furniture or
get up from her nap and walk around until she finds me. She then sits a
few feet from me and stares. She doesn't want to be petted or picked up
or played with or fed - I've tried. She waits until I get up, then she
leads me into the kitchen (where I give her her meds) and jumps onto the
counter or the washing machine. She then allows me to administer her
meds, waits for her salmon treats, usually snifss them then ignores
them, then goes back outside.
I've never had a cat do that before.

We all know she's an amazing cat, but this just takes the cake! She must
know what you're dosing her with is making her feel better, whether she
likes it or not.

It sure must make her feel better. She is really something. You HAVE to tell
the clinic about that.

Sheesh, neither have I! Pan gets a pill twice a day, and while he
doesn't put up much of a fight about it, he starts to sidle away from
me when he sees me coming with a certain look in my face. =o)
Bravo for Harri Roadcat, who is at present, at least, being very good
about her meds.

ROFL! Yes, this is exactly what happens here, too. Except Frank does put
up a huge fight when I catch him.

Is there a "cat of the year"competition somewhere ? Cause Harri should be
the one to win :-) I followed the whole story of her illness and before that
some of her adventures on the road, and this behaviour with the medicines
makes me admire her even more !

What a good cat. I am sending Rusty over to take lessons from Harri
in taking meds.
He hides when he knows I am going to pill him, or brush his
teeth, or brush him.
I am glad Harri is recovering well.

life forms through our care and love. I'd say Harri has really evolved.

This is wonderful, Dan. I told my mom about Harri today. We were talking
about my new pup, and she brought up the pix she sees in the paper for pups
and itty bitties at the Humane Society. So, I told her about Harri r'cvg
help from some of us, and in return, you tried to help another cat (Conan).
We can't save them all... but if everyone could spare some time, or $5....
Glad to know Harri is doing well. How long will she be on the meds?

A while yet. We got 10 days of meds and were told that all of them would
probably have to be refilled.

What a good girl! When Frank first started getting his hyperthyroidism
meds, he would remind me if I was late giving them to him, but then I
would mix them in tuna or sour cream or him, so he might maybe
conceivably have been asking for the treat, not the meds. He did always
supervise me grinding the pills up and mixing them with the treat of the
day. Unfortunately he doesn't do that any more. Please give Harri a
scritch from me for being so good.

Wow, that's amazing! What a darling girl. She probably makes the
connection between the meds and her feeling so much better, poor
baby.
Years ago I was taking care of two cats, actually a cat and a
kitten. The kitten had brought in 4 types of worms, so I had to
de-worm both pets twice a day. Both of them LOVED their gooshy
food, so I would just get the syringes ready and sit on the
kitchen floor. They would both hang around and let me feed them
the syringes, just because they knew that a big bowl of gooshy
food was coming. The cat was my boyfriend's and the kitten was
mine, but when he dumped me I left the kitten behind because
they had bonded and I didn't want to hurt the cat. The ex was
a good cat caretaker, just not good for me.
