I too am hoping (and sending purrs) that it's good news.  Where O Where
has my Tweed gone?  Okay it's better when someone who can actually
sing, sings it, but...

Hi, folks

Sorry to have kept you all on tenterhooks, but ever since I got back from
the hospital,  I've had phone calls & visitors, the last one has just gone.
So here is the news..  and it's GOOD!!!

The surgeon said he was very pleased with my progress up to now.  We
discussed some pain/bladder issues that I am still having and he said that
is normal for the stage I am at in my recovery.
We talked about what "borderline" meant for my prognosis.  He said that yes,
there *were* some abnormal cells in the tumour but these kind of tumours
usually act like they are benign.  I do not have to have any chemotherapy
(whoo-hoo :-)) )
He looked at my scar and said  "that is ONE big cut!" but he is happy with
the healing process of that too in the timescale.  He then explained why he
had had to make such a large incision - because of the size of my tumour -
and he put his hands out to show me.
It looked like a fisherman's tale.  I said "What?? how big exactly?"
He said 40 cm.  Now I am still a feet and inches girl myself but I could
tell from his attitude that this was *big*
I had a look at a ruler when I got home.  30 cm is a foot, 12 inches.  This
was one big *&8^5$£!! which was growing like the clappers, since it was 18
cm or so when I had it echoscanned a couple of weeks before.
No wonder I couldn't breathe and had to have oxygen.  It must have been
pressing on my lungs as well as on the nerves they said that caused me such
agonising pain when I went in as an emergency.  It could have killed me,
apparently, through cutting off blood supply to vital organs.

The specialist is so pleased with me that he says he will see me at six
monthly intervals for two years, and yearly intervals for five but does not
anticipate any problem.  He also dictated a letter on a recording thingie to
my doctor in front of me, as I said I had waited too long to know whether I
would die or not before.  He is a nice man, and btw, acolytes sat all around
taking notes during our consultation <g>  He is a foremost specialist in his
field.  They were all grinning when I left the room.

<faints with relief>

Thank you all so much for your prayers and purrs and tolerating my
occasional irritation which was made worse by my worry, of course.
Although.. I can occasionally get like this when I'm well ;-)

You are all invited to a virtual celebration party at my house tonight!
You've been so great.

I think I'll start already.  I have treated myself to a bottle of red wine..

Take no notice if I post contentious posts later on ;-)  I shall be p++sed.
LOL.

My surgeon would judge me completely cured from his point of view if I was
still alive after five years, and most with a borderline mucinous tumour
are.
However, I have been doing a little more research.  15% recurrence rate for
my sort ot tumour after this.
However.. given that I was given almost no chance when I first went into
hospital and was making plans for my cats and my funeral this can only be
better.
I am making preparations for my chickens to come home.  One of the huts
needed a new lollipop sort of pophole cover.  I got my jigsaw out (this is
the most I have done for a while) made a new one with my saw  and measured
it all up carefully, fitted a handle and guess what?
It didn't fit!
The next one did.  Yay!

I think that's part of the rules of carpentry - no matter how
carefully you measure and re-measure ("measure twice, cut once"), the
first one won't fit ;)

start feeling better, but you can still have a set-back if you push too
hard.

I know.  I think I did too much today, but my friend says his neighbours are
starting to complain about my cockerels crowing and I want to get them back
as soon as I can.
I spent a lot of the day cleaning and preparing huts and runs for their
return. *And* I fetched large stones, logs, and concrete whatsits to put
against the bottom of the fence where I thought a fox might have come in and
killed my lovely goose, Honk.
Which was stupid really.   Too much, too soon.  I am now in some pain and it
serves me right.  No more tomorrow, even though I need to.
I now hurt a lot.
Tomorrow, mostly sofa then and a little up and down the garden to recover.

While I'm still ticked off that they made you wait so long for everything
during this whole nightmare, I'm thrilled at the final resolution.

It will probably take you a little while to take in just how good this new
is.

In the mean time, I can recommend a light Willamette (Oregon) Valley
Riesling.  Served with perhaps some lovely fresh grapes and sliced apples
and a bit of nice cheese.  I picked up some excellent Tillamook Extra Sharp
at the factory.  And perhaps a bit of Lindt 85% Dark Chocolate.  Though Dark
Chocolate does go better with a full bodied red wine.

I'll be over in the corner testing watermelon margaritas myself.

I really miss Tillamook cheese, but then I also miss WSU cougar cheeses and
Hermiston Oregon Watermelons.  Sometimes, I remember how really spoiled I
was to live in the Pacific Northwest.

You know, I complained to my local grocer (Albertson's and Safeway),
and they started stocking Tillamook (I lived in Oregon for a couple of
years).  Now they have trouble keeping it in stock, since people will
generally try something new, and as it is soooo good...  Well, it just
sells out.

I think Harry & David has Tillamook in some of their gift baskets (I
miss Oregon Pears).  I believe the link is:  www.harryanddavid.com.

My brother works at the U.  I miss him a lot, he's a really good guy.  WSU
has the agriculture college and they had to do something with all the milk
their cows produced, so they started a creamery.
http://www.wsu.edu/creamery/  I think I posted the web site before, but it's
been a long time.  Their Cougar Gold is to die for and Rob adores their
Viking cheese.  Rob's mom brought a couple of tins over when they visited
after Rob's surgery and the total adoration of our RPG gaming group, to the
point that two of them threw themselves at her feet and kow towed to her.
Rob's dad was not amused, though his mom thought it was funny.

I didn't know it could happen either but it can, and ovarian cancer can be
secretive until it's too late.  I was very lucky that mine went crazy
growing and presented at Stage 1.  It often doesn't show symptoms until it's
too late at stage 3 or 4.  All you women on the group who still have your
reproductive bits look out for it.  Look online and make sure you know all
the symptoms.
Yes, although the operation was almost unbearably painful in the first few
days afterwards, I lost 15lbs in weight when it was all removed.  Like two
babies, really.
So watch out for increased dimension of the abdomen - not always due to
middle-aged spread as I thought - change in bowel habit and symptoms that
you can look on the net for.
I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I have in the last few months.
Plus it needs to be caught early.  Otherwise.. /// <gulp>

Stinker.  I always got sicker than a d*g whenever I drank any fruit based
alcohol.  Wine especially hated me, but vodka, rum, gin, and brandies always
got to me.  Rob is another stinker, champagne is the only booze that ever
gave him a hangover, or made him sick.  Neither of us drink now, so it's all
a moot point.

Pam S. glad that Tweed is doing fine after her wild cyber party

You go and enjoy that wine. I wish I could come by with another one.

WooHoo! That is truly excellent news.

We've been very worried about you, so I guess we can breathe a little
more easily now.
