Mayhem Update

Here are some updates on Mayhem....

Last night Mayhem was meowing up storm.  Normally I ignore her, but
there was a new sound...

Meow! Meow!!  Mrrf!  Mrrf!!  Mrrff!  SPROING....THUNK!!!! Meow! Meow!!
Mrrf!  Mrrf!!  Mrrff!  SPROING...THUNK!!!!  I finally turned on the
light and put on my glasses to see what it was.

I have a mouse on an elastic string that hangs by an attachment from
the door frame.  The cats love it and ever since Mayhem arrived she
absolutely ADORES it.

Well, the meowing came from Mayhem who had the mouse in her mouth.  She
was happily meowing and mrrfing and walking towards me, with her prize
in her mouth when....SPROING....the elastic cord could stretch no more
and pulled the mouse out of her mouth causing it to fling back and hit
the wall...THUNK!!!

And then Mayhem when and got the mouse and came towards me again.
Meow! Meow!!  Mrrf!  Mrrf!!  Mrrff!  SPROING...THUNK!!!!

I started laughing....Then I gave her a large, furry, squeeky mouse
similar to the one she was playing with, but it has no strings
attached.

two hours later she was meowing and mrrfing loudly and when I looked
over she had it in her mouth.  But when she saw that I had "caught" her
she dropped it and ran.

Mayhem has yet to grasp the concept of a scratching post.  She has
taken to using the carpet for her claws.  I have picked her up and put
her paws against one of the two scratching posts and she hasn't figured
it out yet.  *sigh*

She has claimed my bed as HERS.  She's almost always on it and if I
happen to be in it I must be scritching her.  Since she's a DLH there
SO much cat hair on my bed.  I finally vacuumed the bed today and
removed a huge hairball from the vacuum.  She's  also quite possessive
of the bed.  If Imp or Mischief so much as put a toe on the bed, she
REOWS!!!! and chases them out of my bedroom.

She exploring the apartment more.  Once she came into the living room
while Mischief glared at her from the top of my roommate's chair.
Mayhem wanted attention from me, but since my chair was occupied she
decided to jump onto the seat of my roommate's chair.  Mischief growled
and HISSED.  Mischief may have to put up with this intruder but she is
NOT giving up HER chair.

I think they are all putting up with each other so far.  I haven't
found any tufts of fur but will still hear the occasional REOW!!!!  But
I've had to feed them now in separate rooms to prevent competition and
extra snacking.  Imp and Mischief hardly come into my room anymore,
which makes me sad since Mayhem scares them so.  And she is half their
size too!

*sigh*  In time I guess...........

LOL! Mayhem's antics with the mousie reminds me of Nikki and her piggy.

LOL!  I have cats that do that! I bought this little fishing pole thing
with an elastic cord and shiny tassel, and they ALL love it.  I've
actually had all three of them playing rather close together with it.
So...Rita got it in her mouth and turned around to take her toy
away so they couldn't play with it, but the elastic tore it out of her
mouth and it was in play again!!
Last evening, Spot was under the bed (he's afraid of everything), but
while playing with Orca(t) and Rita, I caught this long white cat arm
reaching out from under the bed once inawhile.  Then the shiny tassel
disappeared and the elastic started stretching....Spot was trying to
take it away to play with by himself!!  ROFL....
I haven't laughed so hard in ages. The three of them are a hoot.

Nico doesn't use scratching posts either, even tho there are several
around the apartment. He's also partial to carpets, but luckily he
mostly uses the entrance mat which is made out of recycled car tires and
is very durable indeed. There's no way he's going to inflict any damage
on that one. (and the mat is not just durable but pretty too, see
examples at http://www.homeleisureproducts.com/floor_mats/index.html)

Keep trying.  Rub catnip into where you want her to scratch.  And press
lightly against her paw pads so the claws start to come out, then drag her
claws across the area.  (If you can do it without becoming her newest
scratching post yourself)

She sounds like a cat I had one time years ago. Someone dumped him on
me when he was only 4 weeks old. I tamed him in the barn while I was
feeding a calf I was raising. Finally I brought him into the house,
such a tiny fluffball. The first thig he did was bounce up sideways to
the dog and spit and slapped him in the face! Then he found the food
dishes and terrorized the 2 matriarchs I had at the time. In short, he
took over the joint!

OH she is totally doing that.  I feed them in separate rooms now, and
she had the guts to creep out into the living room and start munching
out of Mischief's dish, when Mischief was only two feet away!!  Later
on, Mischief was around the corner and heard a yowl and turned around
in time to see Mayhem tear around the corner at Mischief and they just
stared at each other, with tails twitching.

I think Mischief is losing her throne as queen.  Poor thing!
