(Whispers) Harvey is scared of mice! (end whisper)

Sunday afternoon Harvey came flying out of the bedroom and made a
beeline for his hiding place under the sofa. So I went back in the
bedroom to see what had scared him so bad. There was a tiny little
mouse in the wastebasket. So, to see if thats what had scared him, I
went and got him to show him the mouse and let him hopefully get rid of
it. Harvey freaked out, clawed me on the side of my neck and made
another beeline for the sofa.
So it was off to the hardware store to buy a couple of glue traps to
catch the little buggers. Later that night Harvey was in the kitchen
growling and hissing so I went to check it out. Sure enough the trap
had worked and a little mouse was stuck to it.

Well, at least he lets you know when you have mice....

Would be even better if he would catch them! Poor thing he was really
scared and I still feel bad about scaring him the second time.

Awww man, I hate glue traps :-(  They are so inhumane.

HI badwilson,

At least with a glue trap they are not being killed. If you find them
intime a bit of vinegar will loosen the glue and you can release the
mouse. With cats in the house you can't use poison or spring traps so I
use glue.

Why not use live traps instead of glue traps?

Why not use live traps instead of glue traps?

I have never heard of a live trap. What do they do?  That sounds better
than the glue, might stop me from getting bit by them some times.

Hav-a-heart makes live traps in many sizes, including mouse size.

There are several sorts of live trap.  The one I like particularly is a
small wooden box, maybe four inches square.  It has a funnel, decreasing in
diameter, in the top and side.  The funnels are made of perforated zinc.

I bait it with peanuts and/or birdseed.  I had a particular problem with
mice in one cupboard, where I kept my dogfood but since I got a new kitchen,
zero mice.

This trap has a door in the side so you can let them out.  I recommend
letting them out quite a way away, I swear they home in less than 150
yards..

Talking of bird seed, I've just been watching a hedgehog happily
munching the sunflower seed that the birds had dropped from the feeder.

I like hedgehogs.  When KFC was still an outdoor kitty because I still had
my dogs, there would often be a hedgehog eating her food down the garden
while she sat back and said  "OK, then.." and waited for the hh to leave.
Hedgehog is one of my few German words.  Igel, pronounced eagle.
This is because N & I have discussed her rescues of igels so much.

Persia is terrified of mice.  She stopped dead in her tracks one morning
while leading the way to beg me for her crunchies.  I nearly tripped over
her.  "What's wrong, girl?"  Then I saw it.  A dead mouse on the floor.  She
refused to come into the kitchen until I'd properly disposed of it.
