So, anyone watch King of the Hill last night? It had a rather negative
portrayal of cats, which I found irritating.
The jist of it is, Hank Hill signs up for some military "take care of a
recruit's pet while he's at war" program, and was expecting a dog.
Instead, he gets a cat.
The cat has serious behavioral problems, but this is portrayed as normal
cat behavior. Such behavior included running up to Hank and attacking
him continuously for about two minutes, which is something real cats
just don't do; if a real cat doesn't like someone, they'll just avoid him.
It's annoying to see cats portrayed this way in the media, especially
since they ARE the number one pet in the US, outnumbering dogs by far.
Why must cats always get the short end of the stick in the media? Dogs
are always portrayed as perfect, even though they can have behavioral
problems too!

Silly enough to think a show which portrays everyone in Texas as rednecks
who stand around in an alley drinking beer and listening to Dell Gribble who
can't NOT know his wife is bopping John Redcorn (Oh puleese with that name!)
talking conspiracy theories is a "reality show". It's all a farce... best
not to take it too seriously.

I know. It really irks me. Cold Case is about the best portrayal of cats
I've seen.

I changed the channel after about 30 seconds.

I have an acquaintance who once asked me if I named my cats. I said, of
course I do! He asked, why?
Right then I knew he was not my kind of person... :)

While I saw that ep when it origianally aired, I did find it's portrayal of
cats & cat-owners not to my liking, but it also showed a good view of
in-it-for-the-money-so-let's-milk-this-mark-for-all-he's-worth vets. Jerk
wanted to run all kinds of tests on the cat that were clearly for the
money.... At the end, Didn't Hank take cat to LadyBird's vet - and all it
was was a haiball? Don't remember that part clearly. I do remember
something about an MRI machine, and the vet wanted a "new model" and Hank
found out, and sent all the clients away because vet "didn't have the best
for their pet" <eg>.

I suspect that the writers of the show are lampooning the Hank Hills ,
Gribbles, Boomhowers and (whoever the other one is) out there in Real Life.
Showing him completely unable to deal with a cat is, very sadly, a very
stereotypical male reaction.
I bet Bobby was fine with the cat.
