I've posted a couple times now, so I thought I'd introduce myself and the cats.
I'm a fairly new to this cat thing. I have rabbits and been involved
with rabbit rescue since '95. Since we lived in an apartment and had 4
bunnies, we didn't want to push it and add a cat to the group. I
promised hubby when we bought a house we would adopt a cat. And, yes,
yes we did. In fact, the cat came with the house. A little grey tabby
showed up at our back door a month after we moved in. 3 months later,
she brought her two 6 - 8 week old kittens to see us.
We contacted the local feral group and on their advice trapped them
all. Momma got spayed and chipped and released into our backyard. The
girls were brought in and socalized. You can see pictures at
<http://pics.livejournal.com/~bisky/>. The kittens (they'll always be
kittens) are now almost 2 years old.
Momma is still around. She's slowly being socialized to us and being an
indoor cat. She's learned to knock on the back window when she wants to
come in. As time goes by, she is getting more and more comfortable with
humans. Her *favorite* thing is to come inside and use the scratching
post. Now that the weather is warm she spends less time in the house,
but she still comes in for catnip and toys and gooshyfood!
Amelia Rumblepuss is a mostly independent cat, although she likes
sitting next to me on the couch. She's the quiet one, but she's gotten
into the most trouble. She's had a number of adventures, including
being stuck in the winerack (there's a picture), stuck in a plastic bag
(very scary for all of us), out all night alone because she wouldn't go
into the trap.
Valeria Ticklewhiskers is vocal and very assertive with us humans. The
first time I picked her up she *purred* and it seems like she's never
stopped. She follows us upstairs at night and waits for us both to get
into bed and then jumps up and demands to be petted. After she's done
being petted, she'll hop off the bed and go downstairs to find her
fluffy ball. She then brings it upstairs to us, announcing she's
brought it by meowing loudly. In the morning, she brings it back
downstairs. She talks to us a lot.
The other cat on the picture site is Mojito. He was a feral tomcat who
got along well with Momma cat and I didn't have the heart not to feed
because he was so skinny. He was never quite as social as she was, but
he knew who supplied him with kibble and would often sit right by his
bowl as we were filling it. He got hit by a car this spring and we
still miss his pretty grey face.
There's one other feral in the area that we know about. He's a pretty
black cat. When Mojito was around the black cat wasn't welcome in the
yard, but Momma cat doesn't seem to mind him here. I think we're on the
edge of his territory as we don't see him every day and he doesn't seem
to often hang out here. I think someone else is feeding him, as he
doesn't come by every day for a meal and he's not really skinny.
Sadly, we are now bunnyless. My oldest and last bunny went to the RB yesterday.
I hope to get to know you all better. I do recognize at least one
person from the bunny group.

I'm so sorry about your bunny. The kittens and Momma Cat are *lovely* though
and they look very happy. Momma has wonderful eyes. Welcome!

Welcome to the group, Bisky. It seems that you are proper and
well-trained catslaves by now. Your furry family is beautiful. If you
want to see mine, the links in my sig will take you to lots of pictures
of them.

Hubby grew up with a cat and I was well trained by my bunny overlords.
I've always had a thing for animals, even got a degree in animal
science so I could go to vet school -- but got sidetracked by the
really cool stuff you could do with DNA.

Awww! More little black and white kitties!
I have hundreds of cat pictures, I need to put more up, clearly, so I
can compete :)

A house is not a home, without a cat.

Welcome to the group, Bisky! We always love hearing about the furry masters
of the house.

And they are the masters. Valeria just wandered up into the office
meowing at me. Time to get downstairs and pay attention to the cat. Oh.
And open up the back door. Yeah. Outside time.
Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to the group! Don't let any of the recent squabbles put you off!
This is normally a very friendly and supportive group without animosity.
One way we react to flames is to post recipes (which seems to work since we
all have to eat).
I'm sorry to hear about your bunny who went to the RB.

He was the sweetest tomcat. He was utterly fascinating to the kittens
and they would bug him while he was eating. And he was never mean to
them, ever. The worst thing he did was gently bat Amelia on the nose
when she wouldn't leave him alone one day. Momma cat would sniff his
tail and his butt as he was eating and he'd just scootch around where
she couldn't get behind him and tuck his tail under him.

Sounds like a good plan. Hubby and I cook a lot and are always happy to
share recipies.

*grin* After looking at Marina's pictures, Frank reminds me a lot of
Valeria in attitude and mischief in the eye.
I am so glad that karma dropped these cats on us. That way I didn't
have to go to the shelter and make a decision! Orange? calico? tabby?
tuxedo? They're all so cute.

Persephone says "I'm with you, man". Spock just walked by and
hrrrumphed - nothing beats a smoke tabby. Ted said nothing;
apparently calicos rule automatically and the hoi-polloi shouldn't
need telling.
Tish - just following orders :^)
