Dan,

I just spoke with Katherine at the shelter and she says just come in and ask
for her and you can take Conan. She will be there tomorrow, but she does not
have to be there for you to do this.

I have arranged for you to receive a PayPal for $200 for the adoption fee,
your expenses, and something for you for being such an angel. If it is not
there tonight, it will be there first thing in the morning.

Rhonda will be able to arrange transportation, I just know it! So I am not
going to wait to have the money sent to you

You might want to call and "reserve" Conan tomorrow if there is a delay with
the flight, so you don't have to have him at home and upset your other cats.
Poor Harri is recuperating, so we want her to be calm. As long as they know
you are coming, they will not euthanize him. I feel sure he could be fine
through after the fourth, even.

Yippeeee!!!

Think of all the fun we're gonna have over the months and years that
follow, riding Arty-Phillip about all the stuff he said about the group
not moving fast enough on this. I'm going through all his posts and will
compile all the ammo needed to make him look like an a.s (like he needs
the help) for years to come.

Great!  You have preannounced yours will be a deliberate, selective, piece
of libel ("ammo, make him *look* like ...").

Wonderful!

Send me an autographed copy, won't you.  Paperback is fine. I've never had
an unauthorized biography done on me before. Make sure you accurately
copy/paste, time/date these selectively chosen quotes.

Who is "Arty?"  Is this an introduction to a pseudo name you will use to
protect the innocent?

You have a shallow life, "eq".  I give you purpose.

I just enjoy insects like you meeting face on with karma, that's all!
Enjoy reaping what you've sewed on here, I know the group will!

I decidedly don't do cross-postings; the first thing I do is mark the
conversation as read.  If someone I know and respect posts a reply I may
reply.  And yes, I sometimes screw up and hit reply to all without knocking
out the other groups.  But this post is just another example of some people
spilling CRAP over from one group to another.  Henceforth, not read.  This
is how it's done, folks :)

Persia is snoring.  I didn't sleep well last night so neither did she.

I blocked all of 'em that were spilling over Jill. If they're not long
standing or frequent posters of this group, had a cuss word in their post,
and inciting a flame war, they were plonked.

Yeah, you're right. Little Arty isn't worth the effort. In fact, by his
behavior, and the actions of all those involved in the rescue of Conan,
he's thoroughly finished himself here. His own posts will do more damage
to himself than any of us could ever do. Poor little Art.

I'm happy that Conan might have a home, but a few things concern
me. From your earlier post, you said that you told Katherine that
Dan was going to be the adopter, not Charlie Wilkes, rather than
find out if out-of-state adoptions were permitted. As a former cat
fosterer, I like to know whatever I can about the potential
adopter. Throughout this story, I felt confident that Charlie would
have to fill out an adoption application, have his vet information
verified, etc. Now it seems that isn't going to happen and it
doesn't sit right with me. That poor cat has been through enough
already and deserves to have the shelter policies - that are meant
to protect him - followed. What do we know about Charlie Wilkes?
Only what Google provides. From what I've seen so far, I wouldn't
adopt a cat to him.

Just my 2¢, and with that said, I have to say that all of the
pulling together to help Conan warms my heart. He just deserves the
best, as do all of the poor little homeless, rejected kitties.

Actually, just in case the shelter won't approve out-of-state adoptions,
I wonder if Charlie would consent to filling out the adoption paperwork,
then have someone who has done this sort of thing before do the typical
vet verification? That way I believe all parties would be satisfied and
this beautiful kitty will end up in his forever home.

There ya go ... looking a gift horse in the mouth.  Your drama crankcase is
still a quart low?  I knew this would happen.  You're about to muck up a
good adoption.

For what it's worth, the OC Shelter did not ask for the name of my
veterinary.  The only stipulation was that the "free first office visit" had
to occur during the first 72 hours of ownership.

Sweetie, you know nothing about vets out here.  If I told you who my
veterinary was, you would soon be sitting a few inches higher on your chair
in your own filth.  I really mean that. My former vet's office is well known
and her practice nearly 25 yrs in existence.

And I just wanted to add that of all your posts, this one is probably
the one that speaks the most about your true character. It just warms
*my* heart to see such concern.

What sort of home did you want for Conan?  Will he live inside , can
Charlie afford his vets bills etc ?
Did you Google Charlie?
I know Charlie from RPDB.  He lives in a rural  area and lives a rural
life which  has a harder attitude towards animals,  Its kind of him to
offer Conan a home and I know he cares about animals.  he helped a
stray cat he found but he found it bleeding and I appreciate there are
many vets near by in rural areas but it never was checked over by a
vet which is pretty important .
Also his dog ran off and he tied it up ouitside  and didn't  feed it
for two days to try to teach it not to do it again , Thats not the way
to go about dealing with an animal . I wonder if he knows enough about
cats to be able to deal with introducing a new cat to his recent one
and other problems that cats can present .

If you make the adoption criteria strict enough, nobody HERE could qualify.

They say ... when you get married, you marry not only your new spouse but
all of their family too.  That ought to be a deal breaker to any adopting
party if ANY of you anoint yourselves as Conan's "family."  Nobody is going
to welcome your harassing phone calls in the name of "loving concern."

HORK!

Thank you for not posting any examples.

I have been wondering when this would come up.  It is completely
reasonable given the trouble and expense to which you are committing
yourselves.

Perhaps the group can trust Rhonda to perform at vetting at SeaTac
before handing over Conan.  In the mean time, here is my
self-disclosure statement:

I am male, 47, self-employed, financially solvent.  I live in a
singlewide trailer in rural Whatcom County on 5 acres of land with a
tenant who is a mechanic.  I also have a more substantial  residence
in the San Juan Islands from which I am taking a cultural sabbatical.

My tenant has two dogs who are well-controlled, have never caused
problems and are always kept further back on the property where my
tenant lives.  I have one dog and my cat, Tweaker, and they have now
become very fond of each other, as I hoped they would.  My dog is at
her best with small children and smaller animals, which is why I was
glad when a cat presented itself.  And why not another cat since the
first one has worked out so well?  My intention will be to keep him
indoors, like I do Tweaker.  If problems arise, I have the time and
patience to work out solutions.  I'm single with no kids, and animals
are a good way for me to focus some positive energy.

Dang man, you got a good attitude!

I haven't paid anything towards Conan, so I don't get any say so you
know.

I did read all of your posts, I see nothing that would cast any shadow
in my mind (if I was helping with Conan's expenses)

The rooster toe was rotted
Of course you was not going to drown a cat - no more than Kitkat luna's
freind was going to shoot her cat to the moon.

I am extremely impressed with your attitude just now. VERY rational!
Very logical; very mature.

I'm going to use that attitude myself.
biggerbadderbarry - 27 Jun 2005 02:54 GMT
Don't do this to Charlie.

I posted the Cannibas ping, just to give Charlie a platform to speak
his mind on the matter

He lives out to himself...he's fine.

If your not careful, Philip is going down to the shelter Monday morning
and pull the rug out from under all of ya!

Don't do Charlie a dirty on this.

Are 'we' stirring the minion soup, heir BBB?   LOL

I cannot offer a single wide trailer, with an established cat and dog, with
two more outside dogs, with a rent paying roommate who turns wrenches for a
living, nor a long beard of my own to let Conan snuggle up in ... 'tis true.

I cannot even off Conan his old vet!    I just don't know what to say ... if
anything.   ;^)

But guaranteed, the minions are sharpening their spears and dipping them in
the usual poison potions.

Charlie, that all sounds well and good, but quite frankly, I am very
concerned about what has been posted that you tied your dog up and
that you didn't feed him for 2 days for running off.  Is this true,
Charlie?

I want to see Conan get a home as much as anyone else here, but I think
some valid concerns have been raised.

I would like to thank Mary, Dan, Rhonda and the others who have been
working very hard putting this together.  I just know a great, and this
time, a forever home is going to be found for Conan.

This is not a debate wether Charlie gets the cat or not, it's already
been decided, Mary SAID!!! Mary put up the most money, Mary said
Charlie gets the cat.

I offered Charlie Money with the bathroom cat, He said he didn't need

Hi Charlie,
It's not easy introducing new cats , much harder than introducing
dogs. They can be pretty territorial and aggressive to each other. I
would read up about the best way to do it so you don't have problems
further down the line.
Slow introductions are best and if they fight don't use spray them or
shout as this just creates more agro.

A lot of shelters do not do full checks. Consider those who adopt at
cat shows and stores. If they hand over the cat the same day, there is
no checkup. They reserve the right to check up after the fact.

I have kept in contact with the shelter since they go to the same
shows that I do. But I only filled out a short form, basically address
information. I was not asked who my vet was, what other animals I
have, etc.

That's pretty common with shelters around here too. Even if they take the
information many don't do any follow up. We show our rescue cats at PetSmart
on Saturdays and sit next to the SPCA ladies who's idea of screening is if
they look sane give them a cat. The cats go out the door the same day. They
do a lot more questioning with the dogs for some reason.
