Emily's tail problem

Emily gets more attention from me in this newsgroup than our other cats, but
that's because she's much weirder and more mischievous than they are.

This morning she was on her favourite perch, the bathroom cabinet, when I
ran a little water to clean my hair brush and comb. She lay beside the sink,
and about 3 inches of her tail submerged itself. The water was cat body
temperature so she didn't feel it. I plucked out her tail, sopped it with a
paper towel, and presented her soggy appendage to her so she could lick it
dry.

She ignored her sodden condition for the entire time I took a bath. But when
I went to leave the bathroom I checked her tail. It was dry. Either she did
a lightning job on it during the few seconds I submerged to
wash my hair, or she's a drip-dry cat!

They are fairly water repellent by nature. It was probably only wet mostly
on top. But it's nice and clean now!

You've just described Emily's - or any cat's - natural state on all of its
body: nice and clean. Then there's the dog. If you were casting Neil Simon's
"The Odd Couple" with animal actors, fastidious Felix would be a cat and
Oscar the slob would be a dog!
