Good News on Jessie

Her lab work is back and although she was slightly dehydrated, they didn't
find anything wrong with her kidneys (her creatinin and BUN were perfect).
She did have a low white cell blood count so the vet thinks it is either a
viral infection or, more likely, an early bacterial infection.  She's going
to put her on antibiotics and cyproheptadine to stimulate her appetite
(since she is so tiny and is eating so little, additional weight loss is a
real concern - they're also going to show me how to syringe feed her on a
"demo" cat ;> when I go to pick up the medicine).

Thank you all so much for your purrs, they seem to have worked once again.
I'm am *SO* relieved!

Hugs,

CatNipped

That must be a real relief for you. I am glad she is going to be OK.

So am I! Let's hope that whatever bug is bugging Jessie goes away soon.

That's good. Sugar had this happen once and spent 4 days in the hospital,
But it turned out to be just like it. Fever of unknown origin basically.
Jessie should bounce right back.

That's wonderful news! It looks like Jessie, Harri etc. will be with us
for a few more years yet.

Reasonable.

Interesting! Cyproheptadine is an atypical antihistamine, with at least
one off-label indication -- here's another one, as I didn't know it was
an appetite stimulant.

It's also a short-duration serotonin antagonist, so can be taken a
little before proposed interesting activities, and temporarily reverse
the sexual side effects of the newer antidepressants.

LOL!  I'll have to let DH know in case she's exceptionally affectionate to
him tonight!

Good that you took Jessie in early to catch this.  Many purrs for her to
recover speedily.

I read this yesterday morning and didn't get a chance to send purrs
before the guys drug me out to the race track. Everyone is waiting on
me now as a matter of fact, but we're sending healing purrs for Jessie
as well as everyone else that needs them. (Today is race day, hopefully
we'll get a win - we're third on the grid of 28 cars).  I'll catch up
more thoroughly tonight but Jessie has our purrs.
