With all the evacuations from floods in Canada and China,
I am wondering what people do with their pets in these situations.
I remember some years back during the ice storm when many
in town had to go to shelters, I worried what to do with Rusty.
Fortunately I didn't have to go to an emergency shelter.
Shelters probably don't take pets. Even if they do, it would be
easier for dogs who just go outside to do their business.
With a cat, you have to bring along a litter box. Presumably cats can adapt
easily to use the OUT as their litter box.
I guess you can tell I am a worrier.

We have wildfires right here in the outskirts of Phoenix, AZ now where
homes have been lost and threatened. The AZ Humane Society has set up
a special shelter in one of the schools (guess it's good school is out)
to take in pets or wildlife. They have room for 1,000 animals. They
will also go get your pets if you left them behind (I don't know who
could do that) including horses. The AZ Humane Society is a kill
shelter (I guess they have to be because of space and volume) but they
always come through in emergencies like this. They're really a very
progressive humane society in many ways.

I'm not sure how those things usually work, but last year when southern
California had those huge wildfires destorying houses the largest
evacuation center, at what used to be Norton Air Force Base, had a pet
evac center. Folks who came in with their pets were able to house the
pets right their on-site, just one building away from where the people
were housed.

Yes, I remember something about that. It's good to see people/agencies
considering pets to be as much survivors of a natural disaster as they do
people. Sort of renews my faith :)
