It's not very good news, I'm afraid, although I don't have any specific
answers yet. The vet thinks it may be her kidneys. They had to give her
subQ fluids and they did a complete blood work-up. The vet will call me
with the results tomorrow.
I'm now $255 poorer and I'll have to have a "discussion" about that with DH
tonight (he only told me about 20 times that we can't afford a big vet's
bill right now, but heck, I also operate under the assumption that it's
easier to ask for forgiveness than to get permission ;>).
I'll let you guys know as soon as I know anything tomorrow, but please keep
the purrs coming for now.
Hugs,

OK, DH is home and it wasn't as bad as I feared - just a few minutes of the
silent treatment then a threat to make me take over the finances if I keep
over-riding his financial decisions (the worst of it since me doing the
checkbook would be a disaster!!!), and then a short lecture, then
forgiveness (with a bit more lecture thrown in). All in all I got off
relatively easy! ;>
I wasn't really worried, Jessie is his special girl!

Thank you for the offer, that *so* touches my heart. But we're OK for now
and I'm hoping it's not serious enough to warrant intensive treatment. DH
just reminded me that Terminex just came out and sprayed and it's possible
that Jessie could have eaten a roach that had crawled in poison (I just
called the vet to let them know that too). I'm guessing that could cause
some renal problems and the timing would be about right (they sprayed last
Thursday and she's been feeling badly about 3 or 4 days). If that's the
case, hopefully she'll recover on her own or with just temporary treatment.

LOL! I've always thought it's possible that God is a cat (think about it
for a while ;>) - if so, that could very well be why purrs work so amazingly
well!

Purrs going out from Rusty to Jessie.
I lost count of how many times I got a vet bill of >$100 since I lost

If it does turn out to be her kidneys, it doesn't have to be all bad.
Our DeeDee cat was on sub-q hydration for a couple of months when she
was first diagnosed with CRF, then did well without hydration for a
couple of years, then did well with hydration when her kidneys got bad
again. It's possible for kitties to have happy lives while receiving
sub-q fluids, and most of the time it's not that difficult to learn to
administer.

I'm very sorry, CN. How old is Jessie? My late cat had CRF for over 2
years and did really well, without sub-q fluids.
I hope the best for Jessie,
Candace

Thanks Candace! Jessie is going to be 6 years old in August. I'm hoping
it's not kidney disease, but if it is I know I can get lots of help both
here and in rpcb+h and keep her well for a good long time.
I'm kind of hoping, in a way, that it might have been because we just had
the house sprayed by Terminex and that she ate a roach that had gotten into
the poison. Also, I checked out the garage and here was an open back of ant
poison (*BOY* did I have a talk with DH about that), on the shelf next to
their litter boxes. Jessie hangs out around the garage door (I don't know
if it's the outside smells there by the crack under the door, or if insects
or mice might come in at that point, but she seems fascinated by that spot).
When I clean the litter boxes I take the leaf blower to the garage to blow
out the litter that falls around the boxes. It's possible I blew some of
the ant poison out onto the floor right at that spot and she got it on her
paws.
I know poison can cause renal problems, but if we've caught it soon enough,
or if it was only a small amount, there's a chance she'll get it out of her
system and be completely well again - anyway, that's what I'm hoping for. I
don't know if I could handle giving her subQ fluids - I have a thing about
needles! But of course I'll learn to if that's what it takes to keep her
well.

Yes, there really, really is. I think that's where the healing, comfort,
and minor miracles we've seen here truly come from. No matter Who or What
you believe, in the root of every true "religion" is love and that's what
transcends the artificial barriers we sometimes surround ourselves with.
Love really can conquer all things. This group of people are amazing and
unique in this world and I thank my lucky stars every day that I've found
you (again)!
My second favorite Spider Robinson quote (from his "Callahan's Crosstime
Saloon" series) is "Shared pain is diminished, shared joy is increased." I
think we embody that sentiment here.
