Well, Captain might have killed his first insect today. At least, it's the
first insect he's dispatched since the kitties were adopted back in
January.

I first saw him attempting to eat said bug, which was about the size of a
winged ant, on the kitchen floor. (I didn't get a good look at today's
bug, but I killed a winged ant in our living room the other day, hoping to
give it a swifter end than waiting for the cats to bap it to death. There
must be an ant colony nearby that's trying to propagate... let them send
their future queens elsewhere, thank you very much.)

Anyway. Captain kept taking the bug into his mouth, then spitting it out.
After a minute or two, he finally seemed to get the bug swallowed. I
thought, "Good. Summer's coming, so having cats that view six-legged
intruders as snacks is a good thing."

However, apparently the above-mentioned snack was not meant to happen. DH
reported that later, he saw Captain spit the bug out again, this time into
the water bowl.

The Mighty Hunter... if he can't eat his prey, he'll DROWN it. :o) Hey,
whatever works!

I still get a chuckle when I think of Sammy's early grasshopper hunts.
She could catch them, but had no idea what to do with it once caught.
Ocassionaly LB would investigate to she want she was catching, but LB
has absolutely no hunting skills, so wat no help. Then one day Sammy
carried he catch onto the sidewalk near Rocky, who was an excellent
hunter after his early feral life. Sammy looked on with shcoked
surprize whn Rocky scopped up HER 'hopper, and crunch swallowed it
down. After that she tried eating a few, but much have decided she
doesn't like her food to kick, since she went back to catch and
release. ;-)
