Hi there:

I didn't post about this earlier because I wasn't sure what happened to the
little black cat.

On my way to school with the kids one morning, I saw a little black kitty
trying to cross the road at the corner of busy and busier.  I almost stood
my truck up on its nose trying to stop in time to grab him; however, there
was a line of quick moving traffic coming behind me and I was in a turning
lane.  I turned into the school and parked - when I went back, the kitty was
gone.

The next day, the children were arranged for their school rooftop photo when
the kitty, who had successfully crossed the road, showed up for the fun.
The kids went wild and they had to grab the cat and stick it in an empty
office so that the kids could concentrate.

I didn't realize this until part way through an interview I was conducting
with the principal (I am on the BOD) when the cat started yowling next door
to us.  The principal wanted to let him out since the photo was completed
but I wouldn't let her do it.  We finished the interview to the sound of a
howling cat.

That was Friday and the executive assistant to the principal took the cat
home for the weekend, to see if he would fit in with their dog.  Not.  The
kitty was an unneutered male who was used to being outside - he shredded all
of her furniture, the drapes, yowled at the door to go out, and attacked the
dog.

I came in and got the cat and took him to the SPCA with misgivings - it was
kitten season and I wasn't sure he was going to find a home.  The only
person at the school who was interested in taking him lived in the country
and wanted a barn cat.

Anyway, I thought he was just a few months old because he was so little but
the shelter said that he was a year old, based on the tartar build up.  They
speculated that he had fathered lots and lots of kittens since we picked him
up in an area known for its stray cat population.  I felt that I'd done the
right thing in giving him a chance - he was an extraordinarily friendly
little guy.

I phoned today, a month or so later, and discovered that he had been
adopted!  Yeah - both cats that I've taken up this spring have been adopted.
I know that they aren't all so lucky.

A house is not a home, without a cat.
