It seems like there's been an awful lot of seismic activity on the
west coast of the continent this week-- all of it.  There was:
-  a 7.9 quake in Chile yesterday;
- a 4.1 near Quito in Ecuador;
- a 5.6 along the San Jacinto fault near San DIego;
- And a 6.9 off the coast of Alaska earlier today.

The one in Chile seems to be the only one that has done serious
damage.

Just keep them away from me. I'm Central Coast, CA. We had a nasty one in
Dec 03. Did major damage to our downtown. (They call it the San Simeon
Quake.)

We live only 45 or so miles from the good old San Andreas and get little (1s
and 2s) all the time; and 3s every month.

"Shirley B." <twonickbutlers@excite.com> had some very interesting
things to say about Re: OT Shake, Rattle and Roll:

I remember that one. I was working in Santa Maria at the time. VERY
rough ride even that far away.

The 5.6 got me out of bed Sunday, and almost knocked Ranger off the
bedroom curtains (she was scaling them at the time).

I guess the epicenter was fairly close to you, wasn't it?  I didn't feel it
at all, but I'm a long way from Palm Springs.

 The 5.6 woke me up. I didn't feel anything but the windows got a
pretty hard jolt. Fortunately they didn't break.

Make that hemisphere.  Both North and South America.

And then last night's 7.4 80 miles out to sea from the California Coast. No
shaking yet at the middle of California. But it is a wee tad nervous making.
=o\ The Loma Prieta Quake shook me up pretty thoroughly at the time.
Hopefully there won't be a Tsunami from the Crescent City Quake. I compile
the yearly Index for the Seismological Society of America, and in the
May/June Issue, there are several articles concerning the devastation caused
by the Banda Aceh/Andaman Islands Tsunami back in December....  All our
already financially strapped state needs is a Tsunami. Especially right
before the main Travel/tourist season.

7.9! Good grief! Purrs to anyone affected by that one!

As for the other, smaller ones: ditto on purrs for anyone affected by
them.

Still rockin" here!

1:54 PM PST--Just had a 5.3 magnitude shaker here in So. Cal (near
Yucaipa, about 30 mi east of Los Angeles}... close to the San Andreas
Fault. Felt it in Santa Monica.

There was a race on at Hollywood Park when it happened, the race caller took
a second to say "I just want to say I love you all. Racing was my first
love." then as the horses came to the wire he called "and they come to the
wire in a realllll SHAKER!!"

Here is the last part of the call if anyone is interested.
