We're Finally Legal:  partly OT

Yup, Rob and I are finally legal.  Yesterday, June 13th was our 21st wedding
anniversary.  We didn't really do anything to celebrate, though I bought Rob
a new pair of pants and he got me a pair of way cool earrings that look like
a feather hanging down from a hook.  The earrings are made out of resin, are
feather shaped, and have a dark charcoal feather drawn on them.  I really
love them.

We went out for dinner (all five of us) to the local Andy's restaurant.
Andy's is a fifties style restaurant, cheap but good food.  Rob had the
chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich and I had the shrimp platter.  Both were very
good and were enjoyed by us.  Other than that, we didn't do much.  I think
we did a pre-anniversary celebration last week when we checked into a Howard
Johnson's motel for three nights without the kids.  We didn't do much, swam,
watched cable TV (can't afford cable here) and read to our heart's content.
Very peaceful.  I ate well, and am surprised that I didn't gain any weight
while gone.  So far I've lost about 30 lbs. since April.

We're back now veging in the house, due to the 90+ Fahrenheit temperatures
out here.  I planted a delphinium in the front yard and an old fashioned
yellow rose in the side yard last weekend.  I have to remember to water
them.  Tomorrow, I hope, I'll finally get to get my classes set up.  I was
going to go today but there was a bratling (Amanda) emergency and I had to
take care of the pictures thing.  Senior pictures are not for the timid.
The base sitting fee is $24.  The fee for proofs is over $60, and we don't
know how much the finished pictures are going to run us.  I'm dreading the
start of the year when her senior dues (over $50) are expected.  Then there
is the cap and gown fee, the announcement fee, and so on and so forth.
Rob's and my wedding was cheaper.  We spent less than $200 and even covered
the food for a buffet dinner for the family.  Oh, I forgot, she has to have
a semi formal white dress (Church quality or better) to wear under the
robes.  I wish it were possible to elope to graduate.

Now to the important stuff.  Sonya, our rescue feline, is settling in
nicely.  She not only is very smart, but has a sense of humor.  Last night
we were playing a card game called Skip-bo and she was climbing the cat pole
in the dining room and swinging from one level to another by one paw.  She
also caught the evil tail monster that was chasing her, rolled around and
off the tree, chased Qui Gun Kit, tackled him and licked him to the point
where he was squalling for mercy.  We were rooting her on, on behalf of
beleaguered mothers everywhere.  She won and we cheered.

Qui Gun Kit has decided that Rob is one of the best resting places and
viewing spots around.  He likes to finger box with me.  I nick-named him
Pitter Patter because he likes to lightly run up and down my body, giving me
the feeling of the pitter patter of little kitten feet.  He has awakened me
at strange hours of the night doing this.  Very funny, and usually good
timing as I need to go to the bathroom and he can pitter patter in the tub
while I use the loo.

The other cats are getting so that they are no longer alarmed by the kitten.
They find it amusing when he has a hard time opening the door to the
enclosure and has to bap at it with his paws.  Even Sonya seems to think
he's funny.  She does have a quirky sense of humor though.  Qui has
developed a talent for blitz attacks on Merlin's tail.  Merlin acts like he
is going to have a kitten snack, but Qui doesn't seem fazed by him.  Huey
sometimes plays with Qui, usually by dangling his tail for the little guy to
attack.  Tanada ignores both cat and kit, but QC has been caught protecting
them while they eat.  He took on Speedy when the d-thing wanted to "play"
with Qui Gun.  Poor dog got it from both QC and Sonya.  We let him outside
for a while so that he could get over his embarrassment.

So things are more or less back to normal around here.  How's life in your
part of the world?

Congrats to both of you!  Good idea about the Howard Johnson's!LOL

We just finished with our son's senior year ...it is pricey isn't it?!
The prom, the "snow-ball", picts, yearbook, EVERYTHING connected to
graduation including the senior all-nighter, the end-of-year library
fines (hmmmm), party or dinner out for everyone.....  Wow.

I'm jealous!  I long for a new kitten in my life so bad! :)  My elderly
kitty--the love of my life--crossed the bridge 2 years ago.  My present
kitty (Punkers), formerly known as PsycoKitty, has arthritis and has
put on a few pounds over her 14 years.  Bless her heart, she mostly
sleeps anymore.  I have plenty of room in my heart for her AND a new
little spitfire kit.

Way to go on the weight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  (an accomplishment close to my
heart!!!!)

LOL!  Elope to graduate... that's a funny thought.  I'm picturing her with
robes fluttering, running from the graduation yelling "I'm free!  Mail me
the diploma!"

Thank you everyone.  Rob and I appreciate the congrats and the comments.
He's currently watching Red Skelton on DVD and enjoying himself.  I figure
laugh therapy is good for him.  Qui Gun Kit is trying to get Mandy to share
her cherry chip ice cream with him.  He and Sonya are both trashcats and
beggars.  We're trying to teach them not to beg, climb on the table while
we're eating, and steal food from our plates.  I think we have an uphill
battle on our hands.

Thanks Sam.

Truthfully, I'm not on a diet.  It's just too hot and I've been too
depressed to eat much.  I'm a stress eater and tend to lose weight when I
feel down for any length of time.  I'll probably gain it all back when I go
back to school.

Ruh-roh.

I've done the same thing due to depression.  It may seem like a good
thing to lose weight, but it really depends on how you're losing it.
In retrospect, my depression weight loss was unhealthy; I should have
taken a hint when co-workers asked me if I were anorexic.

Please take care of yourself, Pam!  We want you to be healthy =)

You all are so sweet.  As for the weight, I'm still well over the desired
weight for my shortness.  Or you could say I'm about a foot under tall
enough.  The depression is something I'll have to work out on my own.  Rob's
health problems, the VA, and so forth cannot be solved by the group, unless
the cats want to purr for us.  I just have more time to fret over the small
as well as the big stuff right now and can't seem to get my act together.

Congratulations!  21 years is no small feat and here's to many, many
more.  And way to go on the weight loss.  That's no small feat either

They said the same for my high school graduation.  I thought it was
exceedingly lame, as I didn't figure I'd ever get a chance to wear a
white dress again, so it was just wasted money.

Anyway, I ended up finding a nice, but affordable, white pant suit.
No one complained (they did check everyone's robes before we were
allowed to enter the gym for the ceremony, to reduce the chance of
senior pranks), and I was able to wear it a few more times.  The dress
thing is particularly stupid since you wear a gown over it the whole
time.  It really peeved me that girls had to wear white while boys
wore blue.  I considered ordering a blue gown, but ... yeah, I decided
against that.

Actually ... it is possible to elope.  You can skip the ceremony and
have the diploma mailed to you.  I desperately wanted to do that for
my high school graduation, but my parents weren't about to let me do
that.  In your case, it may be the reverse -- the ceremony may be
important to your daughter.  I was pretty jaded about the whole high
school experience and just wanted out.
