We've been having many hot and humid days here in Ontario.
I wonder whether a cat needs to drink more in such days like a
human should. Rusty  gets his water intake mainly  from prescription
canned food and the water I add to the food.
I can add more water if he needs to drink more. But then cats don't
sweat, so probably they don't get dehydrated in the heat.
BTW, how do you tell whether a cat is dehydrated?

Pinch their neck and the skin should spring back into place. I tell you my
MOST successful water dish is the one I placed by the big cat TV (read:
porch window).  The one in the bathroom is very popular too.

When all else fails, ours will drink from a dripping faucet.

pinching the neck is good, but since there's already loose skin there
anyway, it's a good idea to pinch a few other places too.

Just woke Rusty up by pinching him all over. Nope,  don't think he is
dehydrated. But he is going to get more water with his can food. He likes
the  'soup'.
Also finally turned the AC on. My hydro bill just came down with
winter over. It is going to go up again with the AC turned on. Sigh!
Can't save $$.

ROFL! I found that "woke RUsty up by pinching him all over" a very funny
image. I hope he got a skritch too :)

I was tempted to buy a window AC yesterday at Walmart.  A 5000 BTU GE
was only $75.  When I looked at the chart however, this would only be
good for a 100 to 150 square foot room.  My living room is 660 square
feet ant the peak is 18 feet high.  That unit wouldn't even put a dent
in the heat.  By the end of the week I'll probably need to start the
furnace anyway!

I would think so.  Cats do pant.  Even though they don't sweat, they
have to have a temperature regulation system.

OK. I will add more water to Rusty's food. He laps it all up, water and
food. This way I have a good idea of how much water he is getting as
I know how much I am addding to his food.
At one time, TED said his urine is very diluted and suspected kidney
problems. Blood tests show his kidneys are fine and I probably added
way too much water to his food. I was going through 40 lbs of litter
in no time. So I had cut back. Looks like its time to up the water
again.
