I believe I mentioned that my momis continuing on chemo for the breast
cancer she had removed last year. She goes in every week for monoclonal
antibodies, and every three weeks for chemo. Last week she went into the
hospital for a same-day procedure, implanting a catheter to make the
chemo easier. This morning she woke up with one hand badly swollen, so
went to see her doc. Turns out the new catheter wasn't implanted
properly, and she has a large blood clot on the swollen hand. She'll be
in the hospital for probably a day or two while they treat it. Nancy and
I are leaving for the emergency room now to sit with her.

Give her my love. I know first hand how miserable that can be. And
painful. And scary. Like the chemo etc wasn't enough to endure. We will
be sending purrs and soon as I catch Molly and get her furry butt inside.

I almost died from an improperly implanted catheter in my neck that
got infected. Lots and lots of purrs for your mom to have this
cleared up with no complications.

It hasn't been too bad for her so far. They took her back into surgery
today to remove the PortaCath, and will probably send her home later
today. She still has blood clots in her arm, but the specialist she
spoke to says that they won't cause her any problems and they will
continue to treat them with Coumadin or Plavix.
Overall this has not been nearly as traumatic for her as it could have
been. Between her breast cancer, cancer on her spine, the dog attack a
couple years ago, the infection following back surgery, and this, it's
been a rought road for her. But she's maintaining a positive attitude,
and so far my brother and my son and Nancy and I have been available to
offer her all the support she can deal with.

Purrs that things will continue to improve for her. She's obviously a very
strong woman, with a great support system.

Give her another extra hug from me. I had very traumatic surgery three
years ago and nearly died. Wanted to really. Then after three weeks in the
hospital I was sent home only to have my left arm swell up like a balloon
within hours. A blood clot in my shoulder from poor IV therapy maintenance.
(They forgot about one port and weren't maintaining it, but then insisted on
trying to use it again after a week).
Aside from scaring me half to death and hurting like mad, it really upset
me. I'd been through too much to die from a stupid embolism.
Hope your Mom's clot clears soon so she can concentrate her energies on
getting well.
I also hope you are healing up. It sounds like your timing for having to
deal with the hernia was good at least.
