Well, she survived the vet visit. Boy, for being my most confident cat, vet
trips are certainly not her forte. Everything seems fine, and she appears to
have gotten over her dish fear. I guess something just must have scared her
while she was eating. Very wierd. The vet was the young one. She is, I must
say, very good with cats. Pearl was growling and hissing away. When the dr.
went to listen to Pearl's heart she said "oh are you going to sing to
me?".... Pearl actually quieted down after a few moments (though she started
right back up after the stethescope was removed). So, all is good.
Except.....she was 5 ounces HEAVIER than her last visit!!! And here I
thought maybe she had lost some since she doesn't have Grant to clean up
after. Dang. I need to not be such a push over!!!! We MUST lose a pound or
two.

So had to deny them what they keep telling you they need, innit? :-)
I've only recently been delegating food in inverse proportion to their
girth, heh.

A pound or two!!?? Rexie has been on this damnable diet for nearly a month
now and he's lost THREE OUNCES!! I'm to take him in again this Friday for
weighing so we'll see. He's on just 5/8 C per day. (This is dry food, Purina
OM (Overweight Management) I just know she's going to reduce him down to
1/2 C. I can't stand to see him being so sad when he looks at the (so often)
empty bowl. I stretch it out as long as I can during the day, giving him 1/8
C each time, then when that's gone, I wait a while and give him 9 or 10 more
pieces.

Hubby says I'm suffering more than Rexie - - probably true.

PS: Was it suddenly hot today! It hit 97 degrees. Summer's finally here. No
breeze at all either.

Oh I think that is pretty good progress! Down is down. You don't want them
to lose too fast.

I have to laugh even though I know it's serious. Georgie has been on a
diet for FOUR YEARS and while all of the other cats have lost at least two
pounds, George has gained four ...GAINED FOUR! Please, if you find
something that works I'd really like to hear about it (even though he's
just adorable :) !

Pine Cone did that. We put the entire clowder on Hill's Science Lite and
everyone lost weight except the Coney one. He gained two pounds. He's
still a chunker, but we've become reconciled to that. Actually his weight
is pretty close to what he should weigh according to TED. Merlin was the
only one she was concerned about and we've been trying to get him to become
more active. Merlin thinks he's a puddle in the middle of any lit area he
can find.

Interestingly enough, there has been a study on overweight cats. (Forget
where I read it) and it's believed that some rescue cats do actually
have "comfort eating issues" in the same way humans do. Cleo is a prime
example - she suffered froma form of PTSD when I first got her, and she
will sit with her head in the food bowl chowing down, even if she is not
hungry. She'll eat dog food, human food, paper, and I've even caught her
eating her own feaces before now (although she has now stopped thank
god). She is very *round & chunky*. The behaviourist feels that she was
fed on a very ad-hoc basis by her previous owners, and she has to be
convinced that the next meal WILL come, before she stops this behaviour.

Things are slowly starting to improve as I try to feed very small
amounts often, rather than letting her gorge herself stupid (my next
door neighbour comes into the house at lunch time to feed the mogs) but
it *is* hard.

Must have been, although, as confident as she is, it is hard to imagine
what, but she definitely was afraid of the dish. Something happened.
However, the stomach has prevailed and all is normal again.
