I have just mailed my resume to the American School in Japan as part of
a speculative application for a position of science teacher within the
school structure. I have absolutely no idea how it will pan out, but the
deputy head of the school is someone who has known me since I was 8
years old, so I am hoping for at least some sort of consideration, be it
as a student short term teacher, or a long term contract.
HRFL Tiger has informed me that he & Pandora are purr-fectly willing to
go to Japan as it is a pet-passport country that has lots of fish, and
they already have their passports and flight crates packed ;o). Me, I'm
just hoping I get some sort of positive response. :o)
Please keep fingers and paws crossed. The oportunity would be awesome.

Good luck purrs on the way. HRFL Tiger & Pandora could be the most

Definitely wishing you luck... but I dunno how you could want to live in
Japan. We (hubby and I) had a chance to move there, and we both agreed 'no
way'.

I hear they're not very sentimental about pets =/

Well, after some further research and talking to my friend at length, it
would be a great opportunity but they don't actually have an opening for
a science teacher full time. What we have agreed is that *IF* I don't
get in teacher training college in the UK this fall, I'll go over for a
month and get some work experience - which would be very cool.
As for the not very sentimental about pets, I read some fairly
disturbing information about the majority of Japanese vets that have
made me decide that the mogs would not go there. Apparently, 3 out of 4
Japanese vets do not use pain killers on animals either before, during
or after surgery, believing that animals don't feel pain in the way we
humans do. I am sure there are some wonderful American trained vets in
Japan, and the Japanese vets are *competent*, but the majority percieve
animals as posessions and *things*.
As someone who likes the fact I can ring up my vet and he knows who my
cats are, what their foibles are, and that they're my kids, when I talk
about them on the phone, I think it's something I'd have difficulty
coping with.
A lot of things are happening this week, (hopefully all good) and with
any luck, I'll get into teacher training college for the fall semester.
I also had a great job interview at Starbucks today - As a coffee
addict, I've always wanted to be a coffee barrista (just for the hell of
it) and I have an hours "on the job experience" on saturday, after which
I'll be told whether I'm allowed to make fancy coffee!
Please keep paws crossed. :o)

> Purrs, purrs and more purrs Helen. Here is hoping you are selected. I
have a woman friend who has taught in Korea in the summers, when not
teaching here in the USA, and she loves it! And even better Tiger and
Pandora can go. Great.
