Urgh........

I got absolutely NO sleep last night.  I spent the night tossing and
turning and next thing I know, I hear my roommate's alarm going off at
5:30

It varied from I couldn't get comfortable, to my brain not shutting up
cause it kept thinking about stuff, to my body and brain not relaxing.

I remember at 2:30 am, i got up and fixed myself a glass of warm milk.
That did nothing, but Imp hopped on my bed with a look of, "Since
you're up, can you scratch behind my ears?"

Imp settled down on my bed, but since I was tossing and turning so
much, he left about an hour later.

I would relax, but could not drift off.  I would just keep trying to
reposition.  I would get comfy, but then an arm or leg would twitch
(they tend to do that when I'm falling asleep) or suddenly I become
aware of an itch and now I have to go to the bathroom again.....

Now it's 7 AM, and I have to leave for work soon.  I'm running on
sugar, caffeine and sheer drive right now.  the strong coffee helps a
little, but i need to get through the day.  I might be doing a dental
today and I know two St. Bernards are coming in to be bathed.  *sigh*

Urgh.........maybe I'll stop by a store and grab some Red Bull while
I'm at it.

Wish me luck....

A house is not a home, without a cat.

I keep a bottle of (Trader Joe's) chewable Melatonin tablets
in my nightstand for such occasions.  It's not a drug but a
naturally occuring substance (enzyme?) that regulates
circadian rhythms(?).  (In other words, it tells your body
it's night-time, and time for sleep.)  Most of the times
I've taken it, I found it very effective.  (If you wait
until too late too take it, you may find yourself a bit
groggy the next morning, but not like you would if you took
a sleeping pill without adequate time to devote to sleep.)

I have had so many nights like these. It is the most miserable one can
be without being truly sick or heartbroken. And, you know, so many
medical school people (learning to be doctors and nurses for humans
I mean) function all day this way. It's a wonder they don't make more
serious mistakes. I guess you can get used to functioning tired like that.
But it has to be so bad for you. Hope you get some great sleep tonight.
