Mattie, the sweetheart I adopted last September is proving to be one of
the most entertaining cats I have ever known. Know how little kids make
zoom zoom noises for their cars? I swear to you, she has a vroom noise
for when she is about to take off running. For everything she does she
has a vocalization about it. It is like a little kid running around
making sound effects for everything they do. Tony just talks to me. We
have conversations in fact. Mattie announces everything. It is a whole
different experience. The Stripey Thing really only talks when he wants
reassurance. But this announcing everything in sound effects is getting
to be hysterical. She has pips and squeaks and whirrs and mows and so
many more noises. When I talk to friends on the phone, they can tell
exactly who has just wandered through the room because her noises are so
unique - and LOUD.
Does your cat come complete with sound effects?

Stinky makes adorable noises when he's asleep, and especially when
he's just waking up. Mrp? Rrrrrp? Meep?

Baggy makes sound effects to announce his presence when he walks into
the room, and often when I talk to him, he answers. :-)

No, but a friend reports that her cat makes "distress" noises for her
toys when she's beating them up. She says it's absolutely hysterical.

Stinky is full of them-- he is a big talker, I think the talkiest
non-meezer I have ever encountered. He likes to make
whrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring noises, too, and announces everything-- he
has a particularly loud purr, too. The cutest thing is the little
noises he makes in his sleep.

Ping (Siamese) can't do anything without announcing it first (only
advantageous when he's about to leave a stink-bomb in the litterbox ;) ).
Weeble is usually quiet, unless he's playing with His Purple Puffball - then
he's mrrrrrping, meowng and chirruping and chatting away with it.
Tennessee & Smoeky are quiet, unless they want attention (and when you pay
attention to them, they complains about it)
Lizzie is quiet, occasionally omitting a few squeaks here & there when upset
(my brother asked if she was a mouse in a former life), but gets growly and
screamy when agitated by the presence of another cat outside.
Mimi & Moe are fairly quiet, except when watchint birds, skwirls and bunbuns
outside, then they chatter at them.
Ernie is quiet, but does whine when he wants something (usually the tub
faucet turned on) - he even has the Puss-n-boots (from Shrek 2) look down
pat.

Too cute! I would love hearing that!!!
As big as Sammy is, that's how tiny her voice is. One of her nicknames is
Tiny Whiny because she has a tiny little "whine" rather than an actual meow.

LOL, one of the characteristics of Maine Coons is their little baby kitty
voices. QC is a very quiet cat, probably because when he mews he sounds
like a baby cat.

Emily, my "fake" Russian Blue (good thing she can't read :-) is very chatty
and likes to give a running commentary on her day as she moves around the
house. She also insists on joining me on conference calls when I have the
speaker phone, she's quite well known in certain circles of the Storage
Networking Industry Association :-)

Nikki had a lot of sound effects. One when she had the zoomies. She
would zoom around and go rrrRRRrrrrrrrrRRRRRrrrrr, the trilling sound
getting louder and then receding as she zoomed by. Miranda makes this
cute little muttering sound when she gets into bed in the middle of the
night. I can hear her from afar, mutter-mutter-mutter, then she jumps
into bed and comes up to my shoulder and demands to be let under the
covers mutter-mutter-mutter.

Fenchurch is proving to be a chatty cat too. She's coming in briefly
each night for some attention (Jasper and Carrie being safely shut away
elsewhere in the house) and goes back out when we go to bed. We can
usually hear her by the back door, chattering away. Likewise in the
morning, if our bedroom window is open we frequently wake up to the
sounds of her telling us it's time to get up and feed her. Not loud
miaowing, just mrrps and chirps.
She goes for her second set of shots next week, and then we're going to
get her integrated into the household. Could I ask for some purrs for
the integration process, and also some purrs for our vet? Last time,
she made it quite clear to him what she thought about having needles
stuck in her :-(

Thank you all. She's already got into the purring habit every night
when she comes in for "people time" - she makes a beeline for Richard's
lap and sits there, rumbling away. For a small cat she has a mighty big
purr motor.

I just adopted three cats from the pound. I guess they were used to being
pretty sedentary (spelling) there--they aren't all that active--shows no
interest in catnip, toys, and play in gerneral. George plays the most and
loves the laser pointer. None of them are that big on being pretted or
fussed over. I often do this even though they don't want it-figure maybe I
will spur them into action.
I would love it if they would talk and chatter. George makes a throate
grrrr sound when he is bored or lonely--especially if I am paying another
cat attention. George is the only one that jumps up on my lap and demands
attention.
Spot doesn't like to be petted--so I started scratching his body and
swirling his fur around and to my surprise he actually purred! Ironically,
at the humane society I scratched his head and he purred and pushed into it-
-now is I try to scratch his head he ducks--grrr ;-P~~
I talk to them often. I have had them a month--think they will continue to
melt--or think this is it?
Thanks,
Jen

I'd expect them to become more and more socialized to their human over
time. Thanks for telling us about your kitties.

They will continue to evolve. Consider and extra treat time at night. And
maybe adding a Feliway diffuser to help with their stress levels while
adjusting.

Yes! Rita is a very vocal cat. She meows and meows a lot, but I'm
just too dumb to know what she's saying. When I'm laying on the
couch watching tv, she jumps up and wanders all over my body,
talking madly, then lays down against my front to fall asleep. If
I disturb her in any way, she loudly protests over and over.
She hollars day and night to be fed (yeah right!) and talks all
the way up and down the hallway to let me know where she is.
She's amazingly vocal for a little cat.
