My new suede shoes are *not* a scratching surface

Tom and I went had a coupon for 15% off at the Timberland shop at the
Outlet Mall in San Marcos, TX (Texas' 3rd most popular tourist
attraction). We needed hiking boots and also regular shoes, they make
very comfortable walking shoes. I chose a pair of shoes in suede, very
nice and very comfortable. Unfortunately, Fez and Rufous (and Mrs. Sammy
Crews, if I might add) seem to think suede makes a very nice scratching
surface. I can't hide my shoes! Maybe if I spray Feliway on them the
cats will leave them alone...

Dear god, woman! Blue shoes? ;-)  Nope, they're a very tasteful tan
color. :)

Somewhat OT. But I bought a pair of tan suede Columbia walking shoes for my
Vegas trip and I was surprised how quickly they get dirty. I don't know if
it was the polution, dust or heat but they look very abused after only a few
days in the desert. It looks like I've had them a year. :(

Oh, those poor shoes are toast!  Is that why Sammy was loving up on your
feet the whole night???  And here I thought it was your animal magnetism!

Dig in old 45's (probably in attic now)....grab scratched old
record....while you're up there, dig out equally old
turntable record player (I hear you, Gen-Z's: "WTF is a turntable? Whatsa
record?") bring it and beloved Elvis disc downstairs.....sit Sammy down by
your new purchase and turn volume way up. Place needle on disc.
Stand by while he absorbs, "You can do anythin' but stay offa my blue suede
shoes......" LOL.

Never mind Elvis, how's about the great Carl Perkins original??

I once heard CP interviewed about how he came to write it, & IIRC he
said (accent not attempted):

"We were playing at a dance and I heard this cat tell his chick not to
tread of his new suede shoes, and I just couldn't get it out of my
mind".

So a great classic was born.

(BTW I love the King too, but "Heartbreak Hotel" is his best ever for
me.......

Purrs

Gordon & the TT, still rockin' tonight (& still got some original
classic shellac 78's!)

ROFL I don't specially love the King....I just clean forgot about Carl
Perkins! My fave Elvis is "It's Now or Never". I just lost control when I
saw Victor lamenting over his little family's invading his new sued shoes
(only thing missing was "blue"!) Victor is probably cursing by now....he
doesn't think it's funny....say, aren't you a Brit?

Yup, English born & bred but with the blood of assorted European
ancestors.

My forebears, like music, knew no boundaries :-))

Gordon & the TT

PS to PS "It's Only Make Believe" is a Conway Twitty original (didn't
know Elvis had covered it) but my fave version is by Robert Gordon in
the '70's. What a baritone!

I have a pair of those sandals that look like they're made out of
old tires, and Fin used to LOVE to chew them.  I had to keep them
on a top shelf in the closet.  Yes, when I had them on, he'd try
to chew them while they were on my feet.
So now I have a pair of black rubber sandals that I can't bear to
get rid of - they have kitty teeth marks all over the straps.
*sniff*

There are several Elvis songs that I love (nope, not a big Elvis fan) but
the ones that always get me are "Only Make Believe,"
"Civil War Trilogy," and "In The Ghetto."  I guess I'm a morbid sort.

Soncek likes to use my shoes for scratching :(  especially the ones I had
just worn. Maybe someone has a solution for this problem.
Best wishes,

Bitty ate the suede off my brown heels.

They were ones my mom bought for me so I had an excuse to buy ones I
liked...but still, the principle of the thing...

Awww - they miss you :-)

When we first got Otis and if I ever worked too much, Otis would destroy my
shoes.  I had heavy heavy thick leather Timberland walking shoes and Otis
dragged them out of my bag at the door and chewed them to pieces.

You can easily hide your shoes.  I had to do this when I had puppies.
Put your shoes in a cupboard, or your wardrobe.
