If we'd come anywhere close to her, she would have either attacked our ankles or made a mad dash for parts unknown. I can rub her belly if she's in a relaxed mood, standing up -- I can slowly work my way down her sides and kind of sneak up on her belly. And sometimes I can even rub her exposed belly for a second or two before she notices and rips my hands to shreds. Blizzard (RB) *really* loved tummy rubs, and she would come up to me, often without my noticing, and lie like that until I noticed her. She never meowed for attention, like she would for food or treats. Perhaps she considered it bad manners. It was an obvious trap, and he'd laid it well, but it was spoiled when I saw what he was doing and laughed. PC didn't forgive me for almost a day.
