Why pee on the watermelon?

Issa has peeing issues. Not everyday, mind you, but at least once a
week. I've seen him peeing squatting down and spraying standing up.
We've got the Feliway diffusers back on, hopefully this will help.
But today he sprayed a watermelon I bought to make margaritas. Do you
think he found the watermelon threatening in some way? Crazy cat.

That's too bad about the watermelon, I guess you won't be using it
now!  But can you post your watermelon margarita recipe?  I'm very
interested in that :-)

Sure thing, but I don't quite follow an exact recipe. Here's what I do.
Puree the watermelon and freeze in quart-size ziploc bags (if the
watermelon is not sweet enough, add sugar when pureeing).
Once it's frozen, crush one bag enough so it'll fit in your blender
(you'll need a good blender). Add about 1 cup of the best inexpensive
tequila you can find (I use hornitos reposado, look for a label that
says 100% agave) and 1/2 cup of lime or lemon liqueur (we use an italian
one called lemoncello). You could also use midori if you like more melon
flavor or even cointreau. Blend until smooth. Serve on glasses frosted
with sugar. YUM!
You could also make them without freezing the watermelon first, then
just serve with ice, but they're really yummy frozen.
Obviously, adjust the alcohol to match your taste. I have a friend who
complains that my drinks are too strong. Geez, the guy gets drunk a
couple of times and it's suddenly your fault! ;-)

Wow, thanks Victor :-)  I'll be making those tomorrow!
There's no 100% agave tequila available where I am, there's some
really cheap stuff with a red plastic mexican hat on the lid, so
that's what I'll be using.  Oh well.  Dennis and I made some mango
margs last night that were good with that stuff.
Watermelon is cheap and plentiful here, so that's no problem.
Lemonchello isn't a problem either because I make my own.  Well, I
make Limonchello because there are no lemons here, only limes.
I'm sure our taste in alcohol matches yours, Victor.  Have had many
complaints about too strong drinks.  I figure if you come to our house
for drinks, you better be able to handle your alcohol ;-)

I've never quite recovered from the rocket-fuel margaritas that Caroline
S and I made....neither did she....she rang me up next day (at 7.30am)
with the imortal words "I'm pregnant!".

Never been really able to face making margaritas after that...the
consequences are very bizare ;o)

oh, MAN... would anyone out there know a way to make a good non-alcoholic
version of this lovely concoction? Because it sounds dynamite.

Oh, and no pee, please!

Blessed be,

Well, hell, Victor, to Issa that melon probably looked like Ayers Rock in
the middle of Oz (only green, not red)
so if Ayers Rock suddenly appeared in the midst of *your* habitat, wouldn't
you be tempted to pee on it?

While I haven't had a cat pee on a watermelon, I did once have a cat
curl up on top of one in the refrigerator.

After six years in Kentucky, my family moved back to Nashville in
1976.  I transferred from Campbellsville College to Belmont College,
and began my sophomore year, living in the dormitory.  A stray kitten
that had been mooching for food showed up one day with a severely
injured tail, so my parents adopted her and took her to an emergency
vet.  Her tail had to be amputated due to gangrene, apparently caused
by being struck by a car fan.

Once Tinkerbelle recovered, she became a normal, bouncy hoolikitten.
One summer day, I was at my parents' house and opened the
refrigerator.  Tinkerbelle jumped up into the refrigerator, curled up
on a whole watermelon, and started purring.  She looked rather
disappointed when I took her back out of the refrigerator.  She
thought that she had found a perfect perch for a hot summer day!

Well yes.... Hopefully Issa won't develop an antipathy toward limes,
peaches, or strawberries, depending on what kinds of Margaritas you try
next. =o)  Maybe the watermelon said something unpardonably rude?

True, but it was fun throwing existential into a topic

Well, if you don't understand how threatening a watermelon is, I'm
certainly not going to explain it to you. ;)

It does sound kind of existantial.

Well, if it wasn't cut yet you could just rinse it off (I would imagine
watermelons sometimes get peed on in the fields before they're brought to
market - you just don't know about it).  [I've always been pretty pragmatic
about things like this - if you're at all queasy about what you eat, *DON'T*
read FDA regulations about how many rat turds are allowable in food sold to
the public!]

Also, in Issa's defense, a striped green object as big as you are might seem
threatening!  ;>

As I was saying: the Ayers Rock phobia! Fear of large
monolith-shaped objects suddenly appearing in your
habitat.....

Hmm. That's strange, and funny.
Rusty once pee on his case of canned food.
It's not that he didn't like the food. He ate it all. There was only
1 can left in the case so I just rinsed off the can before feeding it to
him. Wonder wheter that was his way of reminding me to go get
more food. But for sure that was a strange way to do so.
After that episode, I put his food under the kitchen tabel instead of
in his room and so far there has been no repeat incidence.
Like Issa, Rusty periodically has peeing issues.
He is now on Clomicalm for his peeing problems.
