Marina - 31 May 2005 19:22 GMT
I've been keeping myself busy so as not to dwell too much on Nikki and
the last hours of her life. One way I've been keeping busy is looking at
flats. I was outbid on the one with the glassed-in balcony with a
partial ocean view, but today I signed the lease for another flat. It is
slightly smaller than the one I'm in now, but it's on the ground floor,
and it has a little walled-in garden attached at the back. With a little
netting strategically placed, it will be a perfect cat enclosure. The
flat is also a hop and a skip away from my job, so I can walk there in
ten minutes. I will be moving at the end of July/start of August. I'm
hoping I can leave the cats on the island while I'm moving (my sister
already promised to look after them), so it should all work out fine.
Then I can fetch them to their new home. Hope Frank isn't too miffed
about having to move again. But the windows face south, so there should
be lots of sunny spots, even inside.

Maybe I can get away from the image of Nikki twitching uncontrollably on
the floor by my bed. Poor Nikki, she would have loved that garden.

Poor Marina!

I know how tough it must be for you, trying to move on.  It's not easy.
But most things get better with time.

Your new flat sounds wonderful and I'm sure Frank and Miranda will love
it.

Continued purrs for your broken heart.

Enjoy the new flat; it sounds perfect.  A change of scene is just what you
need.  And Frank will no doubt take it in stride.  Miranda, of course, will
just think it's all the more fun to explore :)

Congrats on the new place! That should be a wonderful place for the kitties.

As for Nikki, I am positive that she knows you gave her a wonderful,
loving, happy life and that she was as loved as a kitty can be. I'm also
sure that she knows that you did everything possible with regard to her
health care. I am so very sorry that you and Frank have to deal with the
loss of Nikki.

Your new flat sounds great and I am sure you and the cats will enjoy many
happy days there.
Continued purrs from Rusty for your loss of Frank.

I'm quite sure she helped you to find it.  I'm also sure she would not want
you to be too sad for too long but to remember her with joy.  When Frank
stretches out in the sunny spots, know the Nikki helped to find them for
him.

When I got married, I moved from the only home that Melody and Harmony had
ever known.

Little did they know what was about to transpire. I boarded them at the
vet's office a day or so prior to the wedding, and then picked them up
after the honeymoon and took them to the NEW house instead of the old
one.

I swear, both of them had an expression on their faces when they arrived
at the new abode that said, "Ha ha, very funny. Now take us to our REAL
home".

But at least the actual move was seamless for them, since they were
elsewhere at the time that the move took place. It should be similarly
easy for Frank and Miranda, since they won't have to witness the actual
moving of all the belongings to the new home. Everything will already be
set up and waiting for them when they arrive.

Congratulations on the new flat!

The new flat sounds almost perfect. Purrs that Frank and Miranda enjoy their

The trouble with images, you can never get away from them but after a while
they come less often.

I forgot to mention that the layout is very good for sequestering cats,
too. I can shut the door between two units, one consisting of the
bedroom, bathroom and a small sauna, and the other consisting of the
living room and kitechenette. If I get Miranda a little friend in
autumn, and they tend to get too rambunctious for Frank, i can separate
them for when I go to work. Frank spends most of his time on the bed,
anyway, and with the bathroom and sauna, he shouldn't feel to
claustrofobic. The door to the garden is in the bedroom, but if I want
to let the cats in the other unit outside, I can open a window.

Thinking of new advantages with this flat all the time. :o)

The flat has it's own sauna!  Wow, that's so cool, so...Finnish! ;-)
Here in Thailand a sauna would be superfluous, all I have to do to
sweat is step outside, but I could imagine having one would be a great
thing in a cold Finnish winter.

They tend to build in a small sauna in many new flats these days (this
building is only a couple of years old). Too bad I can't use it, though,
because something (my blood pressure) in my system doesn't agree with
sauna baths. I haven't enjoyed a sauna bath since I was a kid. However,
I'm planning to keep the litterboxes in the sauna, so it won't be a
complete waste of space. :o) It's also good to hang clothes to dry in.

I missed the original thread about Nikki's passing, so here I will
offer my condolences and bright blessings.

When I was younger, I had a dog who died of multiple strokes.  Her
decline and death took place over a month-long period, including a day
of semiconsciousness on a bed of hay.  But this period was brief next
to the years we shared together.  This is what you must focus on--the
love you had as a family, the good times you shared.

Thank you, Fil, and everyone else who I haven't thanked yet. I'm sorry
to have to give blanket thanks like this, but there were so many of you
who offered your condolences. You've all been so wonderful.

It was so sudden, I can't quite get my head around it yet. Sometimes I
wake up in the morning and think it was just a dream, and she'll soon
come plodding into the bedroom to see if I'm awake. I don't think I've
quite realised yet that she really is gone for good. I wish I'd been
there to see her go. Maybe I could believe it then.

Just to keep Miranda out of Frank's hair, now that Nikki is no longer
here as a buffer between them.
