Mere is a big girl today. She is six months old already, and feels she
is too big to be called a Mere kitten. Meowmie has finally discovered
her true name, which she's answered to ever since it popped into
Meowmie's head this morning. The kitten formerly known as Mere is now
<drum roll, fanfare> Miranda.

I thought of that name a long time ago, when I was set on having a grey
tabby girlcat one day. I was going to call her Randi for short, as
randig means stripey in Swedish. Well, this Miranda does have faint
stripes on her tail, but I'm still going to call her Mere or Mir-mir,
like I've done so far. But her official name will be Miranda.

She'd better not be "randi" about my Frank or I'll have her guts for
garters!

Waffles
(knowing that the term does not mean stripey in English....)

Take it easy, Waffles my love, nothing could be further from my mind.
She is just an annoying little brat. Besides, the hoomin is going to get
fixed what's not broke now that she (the brat) is six months old.

Yours as ever,

Congratulations Miranda on your naming.  You are managing your human with
great skill.  I just love the way the name Miranda rolls from the tongue.  A
bit of a purr in there I do believe.

Miranda is an excellent name. I'm writing an unpublishable epic at the
moment, and my heroine's eldest daughter is named Miranda.

I think that Miranda is a beautiful name and perfect for a Mere cat.
Barnabus was called Miranda for about 2 weeks before we discovered that
he was a he.  As a beautiful black cat named Barnabus he is quite
pleased that his former name is beging besowed on one so beautiful and
he hopes he'll have a chance to meet the most lovely Miranda cat when
the Mouser lands on the island.  Perhaps they could take a stroll
through the forest in search of suitable creatures to eat.

Beautiful name and concatulations, Little Miranda.

Julie and Barnabus

ps:  Marina I am at the beach this week working at a conference but it
seems the best place to light my memory candles so I have a candle
which burns in the evening in memory of Nikki (and Grant, and Shetra
and anyone else who crossed the bridge that I might have missed (send
me their names and I'll include them in my nightly chants). But I have
four candles on the beach just as the sun is setting and I call out "Be
happy Nikki - Grant - Shetra and play with your friends and enjoy life
while you wait for your most beloved slave who is heartbroken that you
had to go on ahead but will spend the time remembering the good times
and sharing your stories with your rpca aunties and uncles. Remember
you are loved, little ones, and carry a precious shard of heart in your
pocket to remind you.

I cry a little both at the loss of so many beloved friends and the pain
my hoomin friends have felt and I feel lonely that my five are at home
and I haven't been able to love on them. But the names of our friends
are being carried out over the ocean and as the wind whispers their
names and carries them over the horizon all the animals in the sea take
up the chant and the waves roll with the names of Nikki and Grant and
Shetra from the east coast of the US to the west coast of Europe.

With love, Julie

I forgot to mention in my original post that I took the name from
Shakespeare's The Tempest. I'm hoping she'll become a good island girl,
guided by Frank's Prospero. Miranda would very much like to take a
stroll in the forest with handsome black Barnabus.

Thank you for thinking of us, Julie. This was lovely, though it made me
cry again. Hope you get back home to your owners soon. When you do, give
them all a hug and a scritch from me.
