I'm not quite sure how Frank is doing. He seems to me more alert than
usual, and sometimes it looks like he is looking for Nikki. Other times
he clearly seems depressed, like yesterday when he spent several hours
under the bed. He usually never goes under the bed, except when it's
time for his medicine. Nikki, OTOH, would often sleep under the bed. I
think it reminded her of a big box, with the covers hanging over the
sides and enclosing her completely. I try to give him as much loving and
scritchings as I can, but when he hides I can only talk to him to
reassure him, or leave him alone if that is what he seems to want.
Just now, he went to inspect a box on the balcony that Nikki used to
lounge about in. He's never shown any interest in that box before. It's
heart-breaking, but we'll just have to try and comfort each other.

Yes, Frank has to go through his own period of mourning, and all you can do
is be nice to him, which you undoubtedly do.
Frank always reminds me so much of my parents cat, who lived to be almost 21
(his name was Nicky btw).

Quetzie (RB) and Xoxo were best pals. When Quetzie died, Xoxo
disappeared from courtyard of the condos we lived in at the time. I
didn't see him for a day or so, which was weird. Then when night came,
we heard yowling/crying in the back alley. We went to look and we found
Xoxo hiding in the back, missing his buddy. :(

Aw, Victor, that's heartbreaking. Like I just wrote to Marina, cats (and
d*gs) can and do feel the same things we feel. To me it's even more
poignant because I don't know how much they can understand the "whys" of
what they're feeling. That makes it even more heart rending!

Cats (and d*gs) do indeed greive. I always think that people who think they
are "just animals" capable of no emotions have never had a furry companion
or are severely lacking in observational skills.
{{{{{{{{{{Marina, Frank and Mere}}}}}}}}}} I know how badly it hurts and I
wish there was something I could do to help ease your pain.
