Just got a phone call from a creditor asking if I could pay them $X today.
Nope, if you check my account records I've been paying $x and am unemployed.
She chatted with me for a few minutes and then said, "Ramen noodles start
tasting real good about this point!" Yeah, especially when you can get 8
packs for $1 :) She said "Oh! Where'd you find THAT deal?" LOL
Ramen isn't bad. Ditch the "spice packet"; use broth, your own seasoning
and add some frozen veggies.

Actually, my dad like to use the seasoning packets from ramen in his
"slumgullion". That's his cleaning-out-the-fridge soup that is never
the same twice. Mom hates it, but it's usually not too bad if you don't
inhale much. ;-) That's also how I know what happens when one cooks
red cabbage in a soup. Very interesting color.

Over on alt.binaries.food they call that "musgovian" as in, "everything must
go" cuisine.

LOL The seasoning packets are mostly salt; I'll admit to using them on
occasion if I buy the "spicy" noodles but for chicken or beef I prefer to
use broth.

Joel's 'maiden' surname is "Watson" and so we call such meals "Watson"
meals, because of the question "Whats for dinner?" "Watson[whats in] the
cupboard!"

I ate lots of Ramen when I was a student. Haven't touched that stuff since,
even though I am also unemployed.

Once I was telling a friend of mine that I bought a bunch of instant
ramen noodles. She jokingly asked if I was having budget problems.
Then, I told her how much the ramen cost.
"One hundred fifty-one dollars??!!!"
www.ramendepot.com. The ones that I like I think cost about $7 per
packet, unfortunately. :)

Ah! But those are "real" ramen noodles. I've saved the site, thanks!
Might just order some of the Tom Yum Thai Noodles :)

I so love it when someone just doing a job actually acts like a human being
instead of like the embodiment of a corporation. Good on her for having a
heart!

Yeah, she was trying to figure out options for me. Unfortunately I can't
commit to $159 every month because I just don't know if I'll have it or not.
Right now I do, but 3 months from now? Hmmm. At least it's on record I'm
making monthly payments, a good faith effort if you will.
The Ramen noodles came up as a joke and she said it's good you have a sense
of humour. I said if I didn't I'd have drowned in my own tears years ago!
She was very nice.

Did you ever hear anything about your request for disability and your psych
evaluation? We're still purring that the bureaucracy gets off its butt and
get you on disability.

Haven't heard anything. The first exam I had (medical) the doctor explained
how it works. After all the tests/exams are done it goes from the examiner
to a "committee". So I guess the committee has this now as they haven't (as
yet) scheduled me for another kind of examination for anything. Could take
a while and I fully expect them to deny my claim.

If you have your disability claim number, you can go to the social security
website and check on the status of your claim. They have up to six months
to make a determination about your status, but it usually takes about three
months, from what they told us about Rob's claim.

It's the same the World over. Dave gets some disability money and the
hassle he has had over the years.....Every 5-10 years he has to go and
show them that he hasn't managed to grow new fingers!
The winner was a doctor (I KNOW some of them are idiots but this one
wins hands down!) who asked him "And how long have you had a congenital
hand deformity?"
D'OH!!!!

I cannot forget the winning question at a press conference before the
Super Bowl won by the Washington Redskins, including many great
performances but none less than a spectacular display of passing by Doug
Williams.
Interviewer: "And how long have you been a black quarterback?"

Ermmm..... my dictionary defines "congenital" as "existing
at or from one's birth"! I gather that is not the case with
Dave, but if it were, how long would the doctor THINK he'd
had it?????

I do believe that was the point in this case, the meaning of congenital.

So you can dish it out, but you can't take it, even in a more polite
wording than the one you offered me some time ago? How nice...

Those things are very good, but also very fatty. I was
amazed when I looked at the breakdown. You can get
the same kind of noodles plain and not much more expensive
and add your own stuff. Also good to add: cheap cuts
of meat, braised until they fall apart (crockpot!) and your
frozen veggies!
