<This seemed to get lost into another thread, so I'm posting this again
to make sure my thanks reach each and every one of you.>
I don't have the words to thank everybody enough for all your
compassionate messages, both here and privately. I'm the kind of person
who bottleds things up, and your messages have kept the waterworks open
for three days now, which I think is a good thing. You are really
helping me grieve my sweet little Nikki and maybe one day move on to
recall the happy memories. I've saved all your messages and read them
over and over. It's been a really cleansing experience.
As I said, I don't really believe in an afterlife, but I do know that
energy is constant; it may change form but never disappears completely.
So when Nikki is cremated, her energy is released on the world, and
maybe some day, I'll meet another feisty little tuxedo girl, with saucer
eyes and back legs that are a few sizes too large for her body, an
accomplished huntress who's not afraid to dive into water after her
prey, who'll wrap not just me but all other cats in the household as
well as her Grandmeowmie around her little paw, a petite ladycat who
wears a kink in her tail sometimes as the mood hits her, or at other
times fluffs up random parts it. A little girl who will eat with her
paws or carry her food around and leave it in the middle of the floor.
Until then, I'll just have to look back at all the good times I (we) had
with Nikki.
Thanks again for all your love and support.

Crafts, cats, and chocolate - the three essentials of life

One view of how things work says that each form of life is a materialized
state of consciousness, and that each of us began as the most primitive form
of life and kept coming back through all the stages until finally we evolved
into the human state. But before our spirit can be embodied as a human, it
must experience life with or close to humans. Which means that our pets are
getting close to their first incarnation as human beings.
Therefore Nikki, and all our furred and feathered RB friends, were with us
in order to learn something about what it is to be a human. They may return
as pets again, or they may come back as "young souls" in the human state.
I heard these ideas in the context of people discussing the root cause of
crime and abuse. Those animals who end up on the receiving end of abuse
learn behaviors that will carry over when they become human, and perpetuate
the violence in our society. Therefore, kindness to animals may be the key
to peace among human beings.

Most, not all of us have had to say farewell to beloved animals, and some of
us have had to say farewell to more than one. So we know what this loss
means, at least in a general sense. Of course, Nikki's loss is unique to
you, the one who knew and loved her best. Keep an eye out for that feisty
little cat girl! I'm sure she's out there somewhere, or will be, and that
you will find her when the time is right. I am certainly glad you made the
leap of faith to bring Mere into your life, so that you and Frank will not
be devoid of company.
Hugs,
Melissa

Marina I am just seeing this post and learning of Nikki's passing. I am
so sorry for your loss. Gentle Purrs and Hugs coming from me and
Harvey. I hope this will comfort you as well, when I lost Sassy a few
weeks ago, I was devestated. My daughters best friend told me
"KittyLady at least you know now that Sassy is happy, comfortable and
chasing mice to her hearts content" This really comforted me.
Again I am sorry,
Skritches,
KittyLady

I saved the Nikki purr file you send a while ago on my desktop. I've been
sitting here listening to it as a mini workshop getting used my new cochlear
implant. Loving it. But also sad that the source has gone.

Oh my, that just epitomizes both the joy and the sorrow of belonging to this

I dunno what "purr file" is (but I got an idea what it is).
BUT if that thing in your ear lets you hear cats purring
then IT WORKS, huh? Jo, am so glad for you. Somewhere you must have posted
its success but I'm in and outa here for days on end and didn't see.
Don't push it to limit by going to any metal concert tours - LOL. Congrats
on your new "ears"....long may they thrive.

Turn the sound up on your computer and go here:
http://www.possibleplaces.com/nikki_purr/ - that's a picture of Nikki and a
.wav file of her purring. It makes me cry now too. :<

Thank you for the link. I have 3 firewalls and it would require me messing
w/them to hear her purr. Since my son deals w/my PC security issues I dare
not; such is the price of safe surfing these days. But I saw her pic.

If you want (if you don't think it's too morbid), I can send you the
file. It's 137 KB.

Marina! It's not morbid. Do you know how many times I watched my little
video of Grant when I discovered (after he died) that I had taken it? I had
forgotten all about it as I did not think ever of using that mode of my
digital camera. I SOOOOO wish I had thought to use it more. Believe me, I am
stocking up on videos of the girls.

Thanks, Marina, maybe that would do the trick as then all I'd have to do
would be "open" something instead of
reading McCafee's "warning: potentially harmful file...etc.
etc. etc." @ a website. Some of this guardian stuff is
Nazi-like (you can't play PC games w/o disabling it all)
but when I call it up and see how much hacking has been attempted I'm glad I
got it all.
I'd love having Nikki's purrs to keep. It would remind me
how happy she was w/you, her Meowmie, in her forever
home. How is poor Frank doing?

I played that file when Nikki was in critical condition, but I haven't
been able to listen to it since. I'm glad I managed to record it,
though. I thought about doing it for several years before I did. The
sound fluctuates so much because Nikki was in my lap and I was
scritching her around her head, and she was turning her head this way
and that to catch scritches everywhere. I can feel her little head
pressing into my hand.

It's what family (true family, not just those people genetically realted to
you) does! We'll always be here for each other, and this group is so
incredibly special that I don't think its equal exists anywhere else in
cyberspace much less the real world.

I'm glad you're a little better than you were, Marina. I
understand completely re the hairy shirt she loved. I'm going to tell you
something, although I'm not one for putting my life on the cat ng. Tucked in
w/the several unpacked boxes of dustcatchers, momentos, dresser scarves, and
books are two paper-mache' cats about 4
inches long and 3 inches high. In one of them is a couple claws, several
whiskers, and a thumbpinch of flamepoint
oriental shorthair fur from my DurDur's tail. I rarely look @ them now but
when I do it's w/lovely memories and
fondness instead of hurt and loss. I stashed them there when I buried him in
my FL backyard beside Mr. Fuzz.
Your friend in Vantaa shares my belief in RB. My sister
(RB herself), a Buddhist, believed in reincarnation. To each his/her own
indeed.
