Old cat New trick

Tony and I have always had our sleeping routine.  When I lie on my right
side, he lies next to the pillow and my left arm reaches up to cuddle
him and rub his belly.  When I lie on my left side, he would sometimes
lean up into my back.  Well, at 11 years old, we have come up with
something we are both happier with.  When I lie on my left side, I sleep
with my left arm up under my head.  He now comes and put his head on my
bent elbow and leans his body into mine so that we are spooned.  We
started this new 'trick' because he wakes me up at night by kneading my
hair and pulling him in close to me is the only thing that consoles him.
So now he has something on the right side and something on the left
side to calm him down.

I for one love the new cuddling.  It is just so sweet.  And then at some
time during the middle of the night, Mattie will come up and lay down on
top of me and then I feel totally loved.  If the Stripey Thing graces me
with his prescence my laying on my legs, I am just stuck in bed and have
no further hope of ever moving.  Luckily that doesn't happen very often.
Two at a time is plenty. :)

I never thought Tony would be developing new sleeping habits at 11 years
old.  But it just goes to show you can teach an old cat new tricks.
Pretty easily at that.

Felix is 12 or so (he's a shelter adoptee, so age isn't 100% certain),
and has quite recently decided that sleeping on Mom's pillow works for
him. Problem with that is that it's a challenge to get my normal-size
head and his oversize furry body onto a standard-size pillow. :-)

Get a bigger pillow.  That's what I did when Barnabus weighed 19 pounds
(he's down to a svelte 13 now).

DH would yell about me taking up more than my fair share of the bed.

Ah...  You too huh?  I bought two large pillows so he couldn't complain
that much.

Two large pillows wouldn't really fit (we have a double). :-)

There's your problem!

(We have a queen and I'm always saying we need to move up to a king.
Maybe when I get a job ...)

I think we could fit a queen-size into our current bedroom (although
the checkbook might have some opinions about that idea (sigh)).

Yeah, I know what you mean.  I think my plan will be to figure out the
total expense of a nice bedframe, good mattress, and some nice sheets,
then figure out a monthly payment and save up until I have it all.
That's my new plan for money, so that if something unexpected (like,
gah, this layoff) comes up, I will not have spent money I don't have.

I think that sounds like a very wise plan. Too bad I'm not wise enough
to do that. :-)

Indeed.  It's easy for me to say this now; we'll see what happens when
I have a job.

At least then you will have something to fall back on!
