Nikki is in the hospital. I woke this morning to strange sounds, and sat
up to see herhaving a fit beside the bed. She was twitching and
growling. I rushed her to the vet school hospital, and they stabilised
her, but her temperature is way to high and the vet said there might be
some brain damage. I had to leave her there. They'll call me when they
have any news. I'll let you know when I know more. I don't think she's
coming back.

Well *I* think she's coming back!
Did you get the exact level of her fever?
Healing purrs coming yours and Nikki's way.

Thank you. I don't remember the exact figures, but her temp did go down
while I was there. At first it was 42. somthing, then 40 point something
(Centigrade).

I don't want to raise false hopes, but I've also seen partial and full
recoveries from fever-related convulsive disorders in humans. 42 Celsius
is in the brain damage range for humans, but since cats normally have a
higher temperature, I don't know how to assess it. 40 shouldn't cause
nerve damage.
Something that is done in humans in situations like this, and I believe
in cats, is to put them into an artificial coma with barbiturates, and
leave them in it for 24-72 hours. There can be remarkable recoveries
from this in people, especially children, who may actually heal some
damage over time.
Purrs again.

I'm so sorry that Nikki is going through this. Cats do have nine lives, so
hopefully she has a spare one tucked away somewhere. Hug Mere, talk to
Frank and we will all be purring and praying for all four of you.

Oh Marina, I'm so sorry! We all know we will most likely
outlive our feline "children", but knowing and being faced
with the actual fact are two different things. (And it
doesn't matter how long and happy the kitty life may have
been - we're never really ready to say "goodbye", are we?)

Mega purrs for you and Nikki. Cats have a higher temp than humans
normally, but I don't know what the upper limit is. Still, a small
body can cool off quicker; so maybe there won't be any permanent
damage. We sincerely pray for her to recover. But what in the world
caused the sudden high temp? Hugs,
