Sammy: Happy to report that it appears Momma and I are winning the
battle against The Evil Spot and her fluffballs (FB). First thing this
morning the hoomin loaded them into my carrier and hauled them off to
TED. When he came back he only had Evil Spot and Cali, the female FB.

Hoomin Note: Yes, a bittersweet day here. All the kits are now spoken
for, and the three males have been delivered. I'm satisfied with their
new homes and happy for them, but am also sorry to see them go and
already missing the boys. Two of the males will be going to enslave
TED. Dr Haney found a home with one of his clients for the third male.
Dr Haney definitely wants to keep Shadow. He's going to let the client
take her pick between the other two, and then he'll keep whichever one
is left to go home with him and Shadow. He's definitely of the opinion
that kittens do better if adopted in pairs. As for Cali, the only
girl, she'll be going home with one of my coworkers at the pizza
store. Dr Haney had a taker for Cali, too, but I'd already promised
her to the guy at work.

So far no luck with homing Spot. I went through the same thing when LB
had her litter. I found homes for the babies without much problem, but
not LB. Which is how I ended up being a catslave. I ended up keeping
LB (who the neighbor called the little bitty pregnant kitty) and the
most outgoing of LB's kits, Sammy.

Dr Haney is giving me a 50% discount for their treatment, to include
Spot's vaccinations and spay. Don't tell Sam, but if I can't find a
home for Spot she may just become part of the family as an indoor
kitty. Hopefully, once the kits have all gone to their new homes Spot
will settle down and get along with my girls. If they can't get along
Spot will have to be an in/outdoor family member, only coming inside
when I'm here to supervise. I'd much rather they get along so she can
stay inside fulltime, especially since there all busy four lane
streets a couple blocks away in two directions.

Right now Spot is the agressor in all the hissy fights. I'm hoping
that can be attributed to being a protective momma cat. LB is acting
extra grumpy, about like I would expect to any change in her
surroundings. Sammy is the surprise. She's been bouncing off the
windows and having hissy fits since last fall when Spot first started
coming around. When I brought Spot and the kits inside, I expected
Sammy to actively defend her territory, but instead she has just been
keeping watch and hissing whenever one of the kits approached. Sam and
Spot have even touched noses a couple times when none of the kits were
off napping and not around. Usually, when the kits are up and about
they hiss at each other and Sammy slinks away.

Right now, Spot is out for her daily walkabout in the OUT. Sammy and
LB are out of the bedroom investigating the mess left behind by the
kits in the living room. Cali is feeling lonely without her mom and
brothers, so she's following the big cats around, keeping her distance
as they turn and hiss every so often. Well, she just got tired of
being hissed at and not appreciated, so she just started calling for
her missing family. Spot came and started calling through the door, so
I let her inside. She and Cali had a reunion, while LB and Sam
retreated back to the bedroom.

You're amazing Steve in how fast you've found homes for the little ones!
Hope you can find a good one for Spot as well but if not, I'm thinking she'd
be very lucky to stay with you.  Best regards on accomplishing so much in
such a short time!

Spot deserves the credit. She did a really good job raising them
outside. Then she waited until they were pretty much weaned before
bringing them here. She even timed it so that only one of the boys had
weapy eye when she got them here. The second boy was just coming down
with it, as I didn't notice any discharge (TED caught it during the
initial check). Then it was another day before Cali showed any sign.
The Amoxicillin cleared it up right away, they didn't even seem to
mind taking it, laying in my arm like babies as I gently squeezed the
dropper and they licked it down.

The other one who deserves a lot of credit is my TED, who took two
kits home himself, and found homes for the other two. Course I had
already promised a coworker Cali, so I actually had more homes than
Spot had babies. Now, if only we can find Spot a home it will have a
perfect ending.

Actually, Spot has a home here if nothing else can be found. I really
don't need/want another Mistress. (Yeah, Yeah, I know, how many times
has that been said and when the cat had other ideas and settled the
issue;-)

Steve,

How is Spot handling the loss of the three kittens?  Does she seem
upset at all, or is she cool with having some peace and quiet?

I don't know about Spot, but when Mere and her siblings were about four
months old, their mother Kira made it very clear that she would have
nothing more to do with her kittens. If they tried to nurse on her, she
hissed and chased them away. I haven't spoken to my niece for a while
(they recently moved), but last I heard she was still hissing and
growling at Emil, the kitten that stayed. She was the same with last
year's litter. Oh, BTW, thanks for the purrs for her spaying. She
recovered fine from it, and was much friendlier towards people last time
I saw her than before the spay.

Pretty well fornow, though she does occasionally roam around calling
for them. Cali ignores her calls sometimes, only coming when she feels
like it. Cali really misses them alot, though - no one to add to a
pile of kittens or play with except Spot, and momma isn't near as much
fun as her brothers. I keep thinking about tomorrow night when she's
going to her new home all alone. Well, not quite all alone, as there's
already a resident female cat. Purrs that they get along well, and the
resident kitty takes her under her wing quickly.

Congratulations, Steve, on homing so many of the kittens already. It
must be a bittersweet feeling. We'll be pyurring for a home for Spot, be
it with you or with someone else, and for LB and Sammy to accept their
new fursibling soon.

Spot is being introduced to the water bottle, and has already learned
(or knew from her previous home) what "NO" means. LB has made a couple
forays out of the bedroom (no doubt thinking her snuggle time has
being sadly neglected lately. I'm really trying to get Sam and LB to
accept Spot, and give them lots of attention and reassurance.

If I didn't know better, I'd swear LB is provoking Spot. When LB or
Sammy growl or hiss, I reassure them. When Spot does she is told "NO",
and given a squirt if she looks like she might atttack. Spot is the
only one who chases anyone - but of course Sammy and LB know the water
bottle and Spot is just learning about the water bottle. So Spot
continues to hiss and act like she's going to attack, while Sammy and
LB stop acting up as soon as I pick up the bottle. I imagine Spot will
learn quickly enough, since she seems pretty smart - already knows her
name or I might thing of renaming her.

Well done Steve. I hope Spot finds a home where she's happy and loved.

It is good news that they have good forever homes. You have provided
well for them. Now that most of the kittens are gone and as the last
gets weaned, Spot may settle down and get along. It is nice of your
vet to give you the 50% discount; especially since he is taking 2
kittens himself.
