OK, I signed onto this "boycott", even though I'm not a big seafood lover,
and have never eaten at a Red Lobster in my live (and probably never will).
But, I abhor the Canadian seal hunt, and a voice is a voice... The link
will take you to the HSUS web site regarding this, and it will send
letters/faxes/emails to the CEO of the company that owns Red Lobster, the
CEO of the Red Lobster chain, & Red Lobster's "customer service" department.

Same here. I signed the petition earlier today.

I signed the petition.
I worked for "Dead Lobster" (as I fondly call it) in 1982. Back then it was
owned by General Mills, the folks who brought you cereal for breakfast. The
restaurant originally started in Florida and the name was bought out by GM.
I don't know about now, but back then they had all their seafood fresh
frozen in from Florida and points east, not from Canada. They received
regular shipments every morning. Seems like "corporate America" has taken
over and not with the good of all creatures in mind.
I could tell you some pretty funny stories about working there, though ;)

I don't uphold the seal hunt, but if people who are primarily
fishermen are taking part in it, one has to wonder why. Could
it be that the failure of the cod stock and depletion of other
seafood has something to do with it?
If that's the case, boycotting Canadian lobster just makes the
plight of the fishermen worse, and encourages them to find other
sources of income. No one with a family to feed is going to
say "Oh! Red Lobster isn't buying my fish because I moonlight
clubbing seals. I guess I'd better stop fishing and clubbing and
take a course in television repair."
A better way to protest, to my mind, is to stop buying anything
produced from the seal slaughter.

After reading your link, I agree completely with Marion.
The connection is too oblique and non-direct to affect
seal-clubbing/skinning done by fishermen. Execs @ the restaurant chains may
get the point, but I would be amazed if the fishermen did. I know they got
bad reps
and not everyone will agree, but I think PETA and ALF
going "right for the jugular" - unarguably direct, albeit illegal - have
more results w/public attention/kneejerk reactions of corporate
responsibility. I.E. - spread word not to buy
fur products in any form but "fake", etc. This boycott campaign is not
direct enough, IMHO. It will only - if at all having any effect - force
fishermen to kill more baby seals to augment their incomes, which has *no*
effect on Red Lobster or any food-selling chain.
BTW did anyone know there is a gov't (USA) alert that
USA-harvested seafood, especially oysters/clams/scallops test positive
lately for bigtime pollution hazards to hoomin consumption? I'm not eating
*any* shellfish until this is in the all-clear from CDC and FDA......hazard
had nothing to do w/regular fish.

I don't have time to go look at the link, but i really can't see what
lobster has to do with the seal hunt (which i hate too)

It is not a direct boycott and its intent will be totally
unnoticed.

I suppose it's time for my annual post in favour of the seal hunt.
Since there isn't a Red Lobster here, and if there were, it wouldn't be
'importing' Canadian sea food, I'm not much interested in the boycott
anyway.

If you've seen the kitchen of the average Red Lobster you wouldn't
want to eat there, either.
