Purrs for Basho

Basho has been barfing a lot lately, so last night I decided to put him
on the scale (he seems skinny). 7 pounds. That seemed too little for
me, but Tom thought it was normal. So I called the vet's office and
left a message. They called me back this morning and said his last
visit was Dec 2003 (I *knew* he was overdue for a checkup, why didn't
they call me?) and his weight back then was 9 lbs. Not good. So we have
an appointment at 4pm today to have him checked. His regular doctor was
not available, but I didn't want to wait.
Purrs for my love-bug would be most appreciated.

Victor, very worried about his baby boy.

Many heartfelt purrs for Basho from me and my girls. Hopefully
he has just been more active and not in the mood to eat a lot, and
that is why the weight loss. My Cheeks loses half a pound when
the weather gets warm for some reason.

I hope Basho's alright.

Things get lost in the mail, or otherwise misplaced; it's not a bad
idea to make a note in your calendar to remind yourself to schedule
medical visits.

TED took blood and urine from Basho (apparently they had to get the
blood from his neck because he was squirming too much for the leg!) for
testing. Urine test and 2 blood tests were done in-house, the rest of
the blood went to the lab and we'll know tomorrow. Urine was all ok.
Both blood tests (creatinine and something else, I forgot what, I was
nervous) were on the high side, creatinine over the normal limit. She
said it didn't give her heartburn, that we should wait to see what the
lab says. TED thinks we're probably just looking at a case of irritable
bowel syndrome, so we might put Basho on a special diet for a few weeks.
I'm still concerned about the creatinine level. :(
She also mentioned Basho's kidnes are on the small side, but she says
that's not unusual for oriental cats.
It was very stressful, first we didn't get to see the doctor until after
1/2 hour past our scheduled time. Then I had to wait until they took
Basho to get blood, then wait for the tests results. Then I had the
receptionist search their records to see who was due for a checkup and
turns out her records claim Luna and Maya haven't been to TED in over 2
years! I know that's not right, so I have to check my records. Overall,
we were at TED's for almost 2 hours and the bill was sizable. At least
it seems Basho doesn't have anything serious, but I'm still concerned
about that darned creatinine.
I need a drink.

Victor, sorry you and Basho had such a hard time!  I hate waiting in the
vet's office because the noise gets to both me and the cat I'm with!  I also
always ask if I can go into one of the exam rooms to wait and most always
they are able to let me do that.  How old is Basho?  I've taken Omar in
recently (he's 5) because he's been drinking sooo much more than the other
cats so I had bloodwork done on him twice in the past 2 weeks (also sizable
bills, glad for the credit card) -- Omar's creatinine was on the high side
of normal and his white blood count was slightly elevated -- luckily no
diabetes -- the vet thought he might have a low grade infection and so
Omar's been getting the pink stuff the past week -- I hear tomorrow if it
helped or not.
Meanwhile, purrs for Basho and for you -- have that drink!

He's going to be 5 this summer. His creatinine was above normal, just
barely and his BUN (I think that's what it is) was right below the high
threshold.

Fix yourself a drink, Victor, purrs for good lab results.
Don't worry till you gotta: because of all the meds I have to take it makes
my creatinine level higher than usual. There can be more than dire reasons
for elevated creatinine. Purrs for Basho.

Victor, Robbie has IBD, and my mom manages it fairly easily with Royal
Canin sensitive and Nutro in the little foil gravy packets.

Paws crossed and mega purrs that this is something easily fixed.

Purrs going out for Basho from Rusty who has been there and done that.
Attempts to draw blood from Rusy's neck didn't always work ash
Rusty put up a big struggle. Then  the vet drew blood from the leg.
There are prescription food for IBD . Rusty is on canned I/D.
He is not oreintal (I am) and his kidneys are small.
One time TED thought he had renal insufficieny which he didn't as blood
tests showed his creatine and BUN were normal.

Purrs a-comin' and plenty of them; I've been there with Fritzie. He was part
Burmese and for several years had the creatine thing going on. A special
diet kept him sassy for a good long time. Like Basho, he gave the vet hell
when it came to testing time! Have you had your boy screened for diabetes
too?

Blessed be,
