Getting to know baby Beatrice

When IBK Beatrice wants milk, she climbs up the front of my shirt, perches
on top of a boob, looks straight into my eyes and squeaks with a big open
mouth, then nuzzles into my hair. I let her stay there while I warm up her
bottle, then she'll spend about ten minutes drinking a couple of
teaspoonfuls. Then she heads for her tiny litterbox - and she did not have
to be shown how to use it.

She spent last night in a chair on top of "Uncle" Abelard, who apparently
appreciates the extra warmth. The rest of the cats are now mostly ignoring
her and giving only perfunctory hisses. Baby Eyes is still the most
unforgiving of the bunch, however, she has mellowed to the point that I no
longer feel the baby is unsafe in her presence.

She follows me everywhere and makes me stop and play with her. I'm trying to
devote as much time as I can to play with her, since she doesn't have other
IBKs to play with anymore.

When I am at the computer she is either right at my feet either sleeping or
playing with my toes, or she is on the sofa next to me, or in my lap. This
morning she tailed me out into the yard and was leaping around in the clover
as Billy and Lily supervised, and occasionally hissed at her, from under the
parked car.

It's been a very long time since I lived with such a small one, I think
about twelve years. Billy and Lily were not nearly so small as Beatrice. It
just blows my mind that they wanted me to take her more than two weeks ago.

Although she eats a bit of gooshy food, she isn't weaned and should have
stayed with mama for another two weeks or more, but I just could not leave
her in harm's way any longer.

God bless your soul, Pat. IBK Beatrice will be the better for all your
loving care. She will thrive with all the older furries to take care of her
and your love. We hope everything else is going as well.

1) Does she drink from the nipple on the bottle or is she fed from a
dropper?

2)  I've never seen a "tiny litterbox".  Not that I need one, but where do
you get one?

Good!  Baby Eyes will come around, just give her time.

Awww, poor bitty one!  But you are certainly playing with her and taking
lots of pics (thank you, Pat!)

You did the right thing.  She's coming right along and is absolutely
adorable (from all photographic evidence).  She's also very happy.  And so
are you, and that's a good thing :)  The other kitties will come around!

Nipple. Why do you ask?

I cut down a small cardboard box.

I hope so. BB needs a properly furry mommy!

More to come....

Just curious.  Never know when I might have a bitty thrown my way and no
clue (except for here) on what to do with him/her :)

Ah!  That makes sense.

Britta, the pics are on abpa. I don't remember now, do you get binary
newsgroups? And Pat, she is adorable. Are you sure she's a she? That's
the second ginger tabby girl on this group lately. Maybe they're not so
uncommon after all?

I've known several orange tabby females in my time. Including Beatrice, of
whose sex I am 100% positive.

I don't doubt your ability to sex a kitten. I just always thought they
were very rare. I've only known a couple of male ones.

We also had a delightful, smart and funny female orange tabby cat.  They are
not rare but are not common either.  Male calico cats are rare.  I've had a
family of calico mom's, but no boys, from the time I was a little girl until
I left home at age 18.

When I picked out my bitties at the shelter, Sumo probably nursed long
enough, but Natasha definitely hadn't.  Not only that, but you don't
pick them up from the shelter.  They take the bitties right to the
speutering clinic and you pick them up in two days at the clinic.

You're doing everything can for her.  Relax and enjoy the kitten
antics.

She sounds wonderful. I'm glad she's found you to love her.
