I seem to recall a few Colin Firth fans here, so I thought I'd share.
I hope it comes through relatively readable (taken from another group):
Mr Darcy strips for new film
12:49pm 13th May 2005
Actor Colin Firth is to set female hearts aflutter by going naked in
his new film. Firth plays a pill-popping celebrity with an insatiable
desire for sex in murder mystery Where The Truth Lies - a performance
far removed from his role as Mr Darcy.
The 44-year-old is best known for playing romantic heroes in Pride and
Prejudice, Bridget Jones's Diary and Love Actually.
But Firth is relishing playing drug-fuelled sex scenes so graphic that
they may not get past the film censors. "A role like that is not
usually a stretch for most actors," he joked as the film was unveiled
at the Cannes Film Festival.
"Playing a lord of the manor riding around Derbyshire required a lot
more research. I wasn't trying to manipulate people's perceptions of
me, I just go where I'm most comfortable. Romantic comedies came
relatively late in my career and took me by surprise. I'm still
surprised about it. But roles like this can be found in the ancient
archives of my career."
In the film Firth and co-star Kevin Bacon play a Laurel and Hardy style
double act in 1950s Hollywood. They become celebrities and use their
fame to seduce countless women - until a murder brings their world
crashing down.
The film then jumps to the 1970s when Firth's character is a washed-up
has-been. Firth joked: "When I see a scenario like that, I daren't look
to my future as an actor."
Canadian director Atom Egoyan defended the graphic sex scenes.
"It's an essential part of the film," he said. "I always saw this as a
really sensual movie. I wanted it to be unbridled - these characters
could take any amount of drugs they wanted, they could have any amount
of sex they wanted. I don't know about the censors. They probably will
have issues, but we are pretty firm about what we want the film to do."
Firth became a heart-throb in 1995 in the TV adaptation of Pride and
Prejudice, for the moment he emerged from a lake in a dripping wet
shirt and breeches. The actor later revealed he was supposed to be
naked in the scene but the BBC would not allow it before the watershed
It was in the dailymail online yesterday (13 May). Can't seem to get
the whole link to work, so it could be gone now (bummer).

Thank you-- I've actually been looking for news out of Cannes, and I
saw this-- and I ended up a bit annoyed, because it *was* true-- that
all anyone seemed to be talking about this movie was the sex and
nudity.
Not that I'm complaining!
BUT-- I think it is disingenuous of the director and the actors to
complain about it, when they should know by now that is what is
inevitably going to happen. Cannes isn't about art, and it's a joke
to think that it is. It's about hype, and people will grab onto
whatever they can hype about it. I have no problem about it myself,
except I am annoyed that they did not seem to realize-- or pretended
not to realize-- that the content of the movie, and the merit of the
acting (and Bacon and Firth are two of the best you can get) is going
to get completely ignored in all the yelling and screaming about the
sex. I have to say, I was really hoping much more to see stories that
said that Colin gave a kick-a.s performance in this movie than endless
stories about him getting nekkid. ;)

I completely agree, I think that Firth and Bacon are so accomplished,
that to focus strictly on nudity is ridiculous. However, that being
said, it's about time that male actors have to deal with these type of
questions and observations (finally).
I can remember (as an example) that all anyone discussed of SOB was
that Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins for gosh' sake) did frontal nudity
(and she was very good in the complete role). Besides, I am (nasty)
rather looking forward to seeing Mr. Firth in his "altogether" <blush>.

I can't picture Kevin Bacon as a sex symbol...but no doubt he is to his
movie star wife. Now Firth....that's a hottie hunk indeed.
