The guy from the environment agency rang me back. :o(

The job went to an internal candidate, which I suspected might happen.
:o(

Oh well, a good learning experience, the guy went through my interview
with me and explained how I could improve it next time, which was nice,
but although I was polite on the surface, inside, I was like "Get off
the phone already, I wanna go hug my cats!!".

I guess it means that something else is supposed to come along. <sigh>

Ack, commiserations.

Actually that is a very positive step. Most places tend to totally ignore
those they haven't given the job too and won't give feedback.

> I guess it means that something else is supposed to come along. <sigh>

Yes, it will. And the feedback given on your interview will, hopefully, be
of benefit in future interviews.

Sorry to hear that you didn't get the job 'cos it went to an internal
candidate- it's an insane rule. They have someone lined up for the job
but in order to appear "fair" they have to advertise etc etc and get
someone's hopes well and truly up when in reality they aren't going to
get the job and are only going to have expenses and broken hopes.

Been there before. Even once been the internal candidate (for this
job.) but didn't feel soo bad as there were 2 vacancies

I'm sorry to hear that Helen. Wow. I am amazed, however, that he went over
the interview with you. Here most people are lucky if they even get an
answer if they didn't get the job! Something else WILL come along. I'm sure
of it.

Well, they say that no door closes without a window opening somewhere.

I know that many employers, usually government agencies, have to go through
this process in order to justify hiring internally.  But there is a certain
amount of cruelty to unsuspecting job seekers who get involved that doesn't
sit well with me.  Only happened to me once twenty five years ago and it
still irks me.  Applicants cannot win.  They will either be over qualified,
under qualified, or "inexperienced" in the specifics of the employer.  In
other words they aren't the person they intended to hire all along.

I'm sorry to hear that, Helen.  I do understand why you just wanted to hug
your cats.  However, it was very nice of him to tell you about the
interview.  Very few interviewers will do that.  I hope you can remember at
least some of what he told you, because it can help you a lot in future
interviews.

Something better just *has* to come along.  Purrs will continue.

I'm sorry to hear this.  At the company where I last worked they never, ever
posted a job to the "outside" unless all internal candidates had been
interviewed and none were hired.  This seems like best practice, to me.

That was nice of him.  Most don't bother with even a phone call.

=o(  Sorry for your disappointment, Helen.  All that suspense, only to find
you didn't get the job. Not fun at all. Hopefully, another, better job will
appear over the horizon soon.

Helen -

I just saw this.  I'm so sorry.  However, I have to say that I've
*never* heard of someone going over an interview with a rejected
candidate.  It sounds like you very nearly got the job, or if nothing
else, he went way out of his way to help you.  I hope you were able to
absorb some of what he said, even though you were understandably
upset.
