Two ways to use monitors

Howard Berkowitz - 10 May 2005 22:35 GMT In Heinlein's _Stranger in a Strange Land_, Mike, the human born on Mars and acclimating to Earth conditions, had, one day, a succession of experiences tying his shoelaces: between two shoes, and on one show. When asked what he had learned in the day, he replied he had learned two ways to tie his shoes. One was good for walking, and one was not.
Last week, my computer monitor died. To be more accurate, the VGA cable failed where it entered the chassis. Unfortunately, cheap monitors don't do the smart thing and have a jack on the back, so the cable can be replaced rather than the whole monitor.
Anyway, I replaced it with a flat-screen monitor, and my eyes have been delighted. Nevertheless, Rhonda, walking on my computer table, apparently saw the monitor screen and did something she often did...jump onto the top of the monitor, resting on its back.
Unfortunately, there is no longer a back. I impressed myself by catching a monitor in one hand and a flailing cat in the other. While I did get one slight scratch, I think it was from the corner of the monitor, not claws.
Cat and monitor appear to be operating normally at this time.

Actually, I have a not-so-cheap LCD monitor that still has an integral cable. I don't understand why. The power cable is detachable ...

Signature monique, who spoils Oscar unmercifully

It's just three pieces of 3/4 inch particle board, screwed together, and covered with an old towel (don't forget the "L" brackets). That way the masters and mistresses can get on top of the monitor to view surfing, and I don't have to "catch" 'em.
Smokie Darling (Annie) - My two prior monitors were killed by Tuppence throwing up on them (ever heard your monitor sizzle?).
PS - speaking of monitors, take a gander at these... I think they are sooo interesting:

>Smokie Darling (Annie) - My two prior monitors were killed by Tuppence >throwing up on them (ever heard your monitor sizzle?). As a matter of fact, I have. years ago, when I was on IRC on my cheapo (free) little 386 computer, the monitor sizzled a little, the display flickered out, then came back half-size. There was a strong smell of burning electronics, and a curl of smoke rose out of the top of the monitor....
Even then, I still had to type 'Gotta go! My monitor just caught on fire!' before logging out of IRC and my account before shutting down the computer. lol
As an old mainframe operator, I've seen flames in the back of big tape drives, too.

Marina - 11 May 2005 04:06 GMT > Cat and monitor appear to be operating normally at this time. LOL! Poor Rhonda. I've been thinking of getting a flat monitor for some time now, but then Mere came along, and she loves sleeping on the monitor (http://community.webshots.com/photo/303978040/320059588jIvXVJ), so we'll have to see.

Shiral - 11 May 2005 04:53 GMT Just a cautionary tale.... Before my other monitor that had a cat support died, Pan liked to sit up there and supervise me. He now has a thyroid tumor that is being treated with (bloody expensive) medication. I'm thinking it's possible there's a connection between the two although I have no definitive proof.
Howard, I did a "Cat and Monitor catch" too when I first got my flat screen! Pan was literally in mid-leap toward it when I caught him around the hips, preventing a cat splat when he found out his nice warm perch no longer existed. =o)

Rhonda is honest enough to have come back and looked. While she isn't quite in the "I meant to do that" mode, if she were on the Donald Trump TV show, she'd combine being manipulative, cute, and efficient and get the "You're Hired!"
Of course, Mr. Clark is, in the nicest possible way, more secure than Donald Trump.

I'd love to see the picture Marina but for some reason the URL activates the web filter and blocks the site (I have the same problem with Stinky!)
We are NOT allowed to get a flat monitor! The monitor belongs to Sarrasine who likes to sleep there and annoy the SO by waving her tail over the screen when he's trying to type! He told her the other day that perhaps he should tie a screen wipe to her tail so she could at least contribute something to the housework! She looked at him as if to remind him "I am a cat- my job is to be cute and eat you out of house and home- and your job is to do the housework and worship me!"

Can you access other Webshots pages? Here's my main page. http://community.webshots.com/user/frankiennikki The album is simply called 'Mere', and the picture is on page two, secomd from the bottom in the left column. Just in case you *really, really* want to see it. Of course, I could never miss a chance to show off my little sweetheart (who is sleeping on my left arm at the moment, so I'm typing with one hand). ;o)

Yes, I'm afraid I won't be allowed to get a flat one, either. Mere mostly stretches her paws in front of the monitor (like she does in that picture, if you can get to it).

I'm not one of commentors on pictures no oohs and awws for me but that top picture of Frank and Nikki is a great picture when it was enlarged it at first seemed like a mirror was involved until I looked at it and figured it would have to be two faced cat......the cats are nice looking but the picture itself is really interesting........forgive my ignorance but are the Greys Siamese?

LIFE'S JOURNEY IS NOT TO ARRIVE AT THE GRAVE SAFELY IN A WELL-PRESERVED BODY, BUT RATHER TO SKID IN SIDEWAYS, TOTALLY WORN OUT, SHOUTING... " HOLY @#$%... WHAT A RIDE!"

The greys are Russian Blue. Mere lives with me, and the album called Kira's kittens shows my niece's cat Kira with her kittens (of which Mere is one. Don't ask me which of the little 'uns she is, I have no idea. Can't distinguish between them. Except the one climbing on my niece's back I think is Mere, because she still does that to me - just launches herself off the floor and climbs up my back. Ouch!)

None at all. Someone in the past must have looked at something that's set Websense off!

Cats probably think, flat-screen monitors were invented by d*gs. ;-) I would love a flat-screen monitor, but as there is nothing wrong with my 17" Iiyama CRT In can't justify replacing it.
