Tiddles/Dot RB

Sad news today from my father. Tiddles/Dot (no decision was ever
reached as to which name she preferred) has been killed on the road.
She was tragically young - less than a year old.

She was acquired by my stepmother as a foster cat. Her hoolikitten
antics allowed her to worm her way into the household's affections and
the fostering quickly became an adoption.

Tiddles was definitely my father's cat. I feel so much for him right
now because she was his first proper cat. Balou was my stepmother's
cat, no doubt about that. Min (who went to the bridge just months ago)
was my cat and was simply with my father on a long-term foster. But
Tiddles was definitely my father's cat, and they adored each other. He
spent hours devising new kitten toys, playing with her extensively
every day to tire her out and prevent night-time zoomies.

She was a beautiful kitten too:

Please purr for Tiddles and for her grieving humans.

Al, I'm sorry for both Tiddles and your father. Alas, a cat is no match for
a car. =o( Comforting purrs to him.  What a sad way to lose a lovely
cat-girl.  I'm glad for his sake the house isn't empty of cats, but the most
important one for him is missing.  It's much too soon now of course, but I
found the best remedy for the loss of a beloved cat was to make myself go
down to the animal shelter and find a new cat friend after a suitable period
of mourning had been observed.

Sadly, it is. Balou went to the Bridge back in early 2003 and Min left
us last year. I hope that my father and stepmother will foster again
soon... but it's far too early to tell.

It occurs to me that this option may soon be closed to me.
Considering my health, not that I expect to go any time soon, but if I
got a kitten I'd put my chances of outliving it at about 50%.

Oh well, just one more thing to worry and be depressed about   :-)

There's plenty of adult cats who would *love* a new home! :)

but there are always older hard to adopt kitties out there that *need*
someone too. Maybe even more.

Indeed, I adopted Francesca at the age of six months. Adult kitties have a
hard time being adopted as their cuteness quotient has depreciated.  Of
course, a nice, mannerly adult cat might be the perfect companion for an
older adult first time cat slave.

When we went looking for an owner, DH left most of the selection
process to me (his only requirement was that the cat have a standard
tail. For some reason, he dislikes bobtails). I deliberately chose a
young adult cat (Felix was about 2 when I got him from the shelter),
since I didn't think most landlords would be terribly happy about
kitten demolitions, but we did want someone young enough that we'd
have a nice long time with him/her.

When my great aunt got a kitten she was aged 80, I wondered who would
outlive who. My great aunt will be 100 in October and I'm glad to say I
still don't know the answer.

The poor little one! A thousand purrs for her, and the family. She'll be a
kitten forever in the place where it is always summer, and the catnip is
ever abundant; and her Divine Creator will be hard put to explain to all the
new visitors just what a hoolikitten can do!

Blessed be,
Baha
