Mandy's Back

I am incredibly relieved! She's home safe and sound. She was picked up by
the city animal control from an address three doors up the street from me,
and it must have happened very shortly after she made her escape. I could
have saved myself an anxious weekend if I'd called Friday before they
closed, instead of hoping she'd turn up on her own!

I hate going to those places; they do their best, but I always want to
take all the animals home. They had a couple friendly cute scrawny
half-grown cats, one which has suffered some injury to its ears in the
same room as Mandy, and a big calico which was obviously an office cat,
with a bed on the reception desk. Plus a number of dogs - several beagles,
a husky-type, and some mixed breeds I know too little of dogs to guess at
their ancestry.

Thanks for all the purrs!

Cheryl,

There is usually Beagle rescues all over the place.  If you can, is there
anyway you can contact one in your local area and tell them of the Beagles??

And THANK GOD that you found Mandy...  ;)

There is a local beagle rescue group, but I always assumed that they
worked arm-in-arm with Humane Services and the SPCA, so they'd know about
the beagles. In fact, when I checked their site, it looks like they do
know about and try to find homes for the Humane Services dogs.

I have certainly heard a lot about the local abandoned beagle problem, but
all those photos bring the problem home!

Now why did I go and look at this site??  :(  All those abandoned babies....

Doesn't it??  The thing is, people DO NOT read up on dog breeds before
buying/adopting them.  Beagle puppies are adorable, but they grow up to be a
BEAGLE.  They have a deep bark and howl, and they need to run, hunt, play to
be happy.  My friend's boyfriend had two of them.  They were so cute, but
they were SO wired.  Every time they were at the house and I went over
there, I'd end up coming home with muddy paw prints on me!!  God bless them,
but they need a huge yard, or they need a responsible owner who will run
them.  Poor doggies...  ;(   (Owner of a Basset Hound.  Why did I get this
breed?  Because Basset's like to hang out, sleep, lay on the sofa, sleep,
eat, sleep, eat...  AND HOWL!!)  ;o)

Is she glad to be home?  ;)

I'll bet you don't know whether to hold her or yell at her.  At least
she's there.  What a happy ending to what could have been a very sad
story.

Its a real anticlimax when they're found, your all tensed up
and in a spin of anxiety, and suddenly the relief is almost too
much to bear. What good news I'm so happy for you
