My Sassy passed last night. She went to bed as usual last night with my
oldest daughter, she passed sometime during the night. She showed no
signs of being sick at all, maybe it was just her time to go. I feel as
though my heart has been ripped apart and stomped on. My daughters are
so upset that they did not go to school today. I have no idea what I am
going to do with out my furbaby. The house just seems so empty without
her.

I'm so sorry for your loss! What a shock to wake up to. Do remember,
Sassy had a wonderful life with you, she did not suffer prolonged pain
or illness, and she knew she was loved and secure throughout her life.
She was a very lucky cat, to be able to pass mercifully and naturallly.
I realize that doesn't make the loss easier for you and your
daughters to bear in the immediate present. Sassy was part of your
family and her absence will leave a hole.
My recommendation is to plan a nice funeral for Sassy, and to mourn her
for however long seems right. Give her all the honor that is her due.
I certainly mourned Isadora, and I still do.
But then, I found the best way to fill the loneliness of her absence
was to find some new fur person to love. And you can give a forever
home to a new lucky kitty who needs human love and security.

>My Sassy passed last night. She went to bed as usual last night...
Please add my condolences to everyone else's. That's most sad.
A general question to everyone - I've certainly never had a situation such as
Sassy's, and don't recall hearing a similar tale. Has anyone else had a kitty
unexpectedly die without warning??? I had it happen with my pit bull,
although he was clearly having medical (skeletal) problems whereby we were
probably going to have to have him euthanized out of mercy. Even now, 14
years later, I regret not having the necropsy performed to answer the
question.

Yes, a friend had a quite elderly cat die unexpectedly. She had a vet do
a necropsy and it turned out he (the cat) had had cancer that hadn't been
detected. The cat had been doing some inappropriate peeing that in
retrospect might have been due to the cancer but which had been put down
to a behavioural problem, stress in the home, etc.
It was a shock, but it's not a bad way to go, especially when the cat
didn't appear to be suffering.

Not a kitty, but I had a calf which I had "adopted" as a kid. I taught
her tricks, and she would come to her name, nod her head, etc. She
died as an adult cow, around age 7 which is less than middle age for a
cow, of a heart attack in the night.

Bright Blessings for Sassy and your family.

I am so sorry to hear this news. It's such a dreadful shock when a loved
one passes unexpectedly in the night, I have experienced it.
Nothing will console you right now, just like nothing could console me.
A while down the line, not at first, I began to realise that if I had
expected it, to make it easier for me, it would have probably meant that my
loved one had been ill beforehand. I didn't want that to have been the
case.
How nice to go to sleep as normal at night and wake up to find yourself at
the Rainbow Bridge. I hope that happens to me when the time comes.
Purrs for Sassy's easy journey and for your breaking heart.

God, these things are so rough... she went in the company of someone she
loved, and that is a great blessing. I know that heart-ripped feeling too
well and can only tell you that I am crying as I read this, and every drop
is a prayer for you and your children to heal, hold on to the good memories,
and to remember that in that place across the Bridge Sassy awaits you all
and will never know pain or illness there. She must have been good with
kids... I think that she must be giving love and comfort to one who never
had the blessing of knowing and loving a cat during earth-life.
Blessed be,
Baha
